Great song, great record. The MK III lineup is my favorite version of DP.
Great record, but I still prefer the MK II lineup. I feel Gillan is a much better singer than Coverdale.

Mord

Velvet Underground - Heroin (1966)
Birthday Party - Mutiny in Heaven (1982)

The two best songs about heroin, bar none.

I see a pattern here \m/.
I'm happy to say I saw Dio perform live a few times. Four times with Sabbath and a couple of times solo. Wish I could have been there for those early Rainbow shows.

Me, too. I've only seen Dio, twice. Once in '84 for Last in Line. Great show.

Lol, solid choices. Honorable mentions should include "Just one Fix" by Ministry and "Hand of Doom" by Black Sabbath. My favorite is "Rocks Off" by the Stones. I guess there are different interpretations but I always assumed Rocks Off was about H.

"Kick me like you've kicked before
I can't even feel the pain no more"

Sounds like lyrics about smack to me  >:D

I thought "Rocks Off" was about frenzied sex. I do see your point. Ministry and Sabbath are both great choices ( I can't believe I forgot "One More Fix"). Also, "Looking for a Kiss" ("I need a fix and a kiss") by New York Dolls. I wonder if Hep will start a "best heroin songs" list?

Mord

Nick Lowe - Heart of the City
Elvis Costello  - Less Than Zero
Wreckless Eric - Whole Wide World
The Damned - Neat, Neat, Neat

I guess I've been on a Stiff Records kick, lately. Hey, "If It Ain't Stiff, It Ain't Worth a F**k"

Mord

The Modern Lovers - Roadrunner
One of the great pre-punk songs. The Sex Pistols sang it in their "RnR Swindle" film. It was also covered by U.K. Subs, Wire, Joan Jett, Cabaret Voltaire, and numerous others. The original Modern Lovers version was produced by John Cale of the Velvet Underground.

You guys see The Damned playing with Misfits in LA, i think this weekend. And it's real Misfits with Jerry, Glen, and Doyle. Wish I could be there. Glen says he's not going to play too many Misfits shows.
