He's not gotten a green light on it, that's just him talking about his interest in it and notes he's made on it.  Del Toro tried to get Wolf Man and Creature going as well.  He was attached to Creature for a bit, if memory serves, but Ross did not like the script treatment.

Rumour has it since Hellboy is now with Universal, they are trying to use that as a springboard for the classic Monsters and that Frankie will have a cameo in Lost Army.  Gotta wait 'til July 11 to find out!

That new Wolfman with Benicio Del Toro and makeup by Rick baker looks promising.

Yeah, the Wolf Man sounds promising, with Mark Romanek. directing.  There's some odd plot points Anthony Hopkins revealed, but perhaps it'll change, or he's mistaken, or just maybe it'll work.  I'll see it on that one photo of Benicio alone.

Del Toro would be my choice for directing any new Frankie film.

Toy Ranch

I hope that whoever directs it they go back to the classic Karloff/Strange look for the monster.  That would be a huge boon to classic monster fans, if they stopped tricking up the look and went back to what everyone knows and loves.  This just didn't get it done:

Hell, just the marketing would be 100x better for them...

The make up was not show yet was it ? I just saw a pic of them on line with Del Toro's hair messed up and fangs. They are not even filming yet are they ?
That was not the makeup was it ? I expect Baker's final makeup to be amazing .

Best..

No, that was just a photo of them goofing around. But hell Benicio looked a hell of a lot more like the Wolfman in that pic than some people have in finished movies!

I have high hopes for the makeup at least because not only is Rick Baker, Monkey Maker (which is what we've always called him) a huge classic Universal fan but he's also said that he's only campaigned twice in his career for a job, being willing to take a cut in pay, and that was for ED WOOD and this film.

Raaarahhhhhhh!

No make-up.  No fangs, no contacts, hell, he didn't even dye his hair.  Let's hope the script is up to his performance.

Yeah, lol, that's how he normally looks.   :D

Benicio Del Toro sure gets around the monster bases! First with the Creature, and now both the Wolf Man and Frankenstein? Wow! This guy has got to be a huge fan of the classic monsters.

I'm with Bobby 100%. Get back to the basic nuts and bolts that makes for a traditional Frankenstein monster. That Van Helsing monster sucked eggs big time. Bring back the greasepaint please.

And yes, Del Toro looks great as a Wolf Man with little to next to no make up on!

Believe it or not Terry, it's two different Del Toros!  There's the director Guillermo who made Hellboy, among other films, and is quite the horror and monster fan but has yet to get the nod for a modern Universal Monster film - that we know of.  Then there's Benicio, who is starring in the new "The Wolf Man" helmed by Mark Romanek, due in early 2009.

So hopefull...

It's never really been done, short of TERROR OF/VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN.

And with respect, guys, Pierce's exact makeup has been used on too many toys, in toons, etc; folks wouldn't buy it in a straight version of Mary's story that aimed for any fresh impact at all.

Best,

Excellent point Craig.  In complete agreement.

I say "nertz" to you guys. If you showed "flashback" footage of the Frankenstein graphically building the monster's skull and face, maybe with a voiceover, you could prepare people to see the classic Universal monster in a new way. Maybe he'd have to have more facial stitches or something to make just a bit different than the Halloween image. But I bet if the image was carefully presented, and taken seriously in the film (would work best in a period movie), then the audience would go along with it.
