Ahi gets the nod for nailing the Universal likeness(i guess it helps to have the license)
Mego gets it for overall coolness of the figure ,especially with the variations and trailing close behind both is the remco monsters
  Whats your thoughts??

For me it's

Remco

AHI

Lincoln

and all the way down at the bottom are Megos.  If I could think of others to put above them I would.  Frank is Cool, Drac is OK, but the other 2 just never tickled my fancy.

HEY VIN!  Good to see ya posting here.  I can admire the creative, copyright-dodging approach of the Mego monsters, but I admire the Lincoln monsters in that respect even more.  Hands-down the winner of AHI vs Mego is...AHI, of course!

IC4CHAMBERS

Wow  i totally forgot the Lincolns!!!   i would put them ahead of Mego also

Hey Vin-Man!

Good to see you over here!

I hate Megos! ;D

As far as AHI goes you really have to give credit to Aurora since AHI basically swiped the sculpts from the kits.

While the AHI were a much better likeness, the Mego packaging was far superior.

It's tough to compare licensed to non licensed but the Mego art by Grey Morrow pushes them over the top in this battle.

And the winner is....MEGO! ......I know, coming from me that's shocking.

AHI is the king of 70s monster toys.  And now we have to throw Tomland in the mix, since they made a Frank, Drac, Wolfman and Mummy.

I rank them:
AHI
Lincoln
Tomland
Remco
Mego

Sorry Mego!

I've always ranked them

Lincoln
Mego
Remco
AHI (Can't get over the bodies)

I love them all really and the only reason the Lincolns win is that I had one or two as a child.

I agree with this.  I love Mego figures, but their monsters...  blechhh.

The Toyroom

Although I can't believe I'm saying this (since I've only ever owned the Mego Mad Monsters)....I gotta give it to the AHI monsters, probably followed by Lincoln and Remco. The Mego Monsters are more "super-heroes" to me than actual monsters...more good guys in the vein of The Monster Squad instead of the scary Universal group of yore.
Think outside the box!

I can see why you think that, especially if you're a purist. I just personally view them as wonderfully stylized pieces geared towards children.

Yes, and that's what they are, but we see many stylized monster toys and many of those are, IMO, better styled than the Mego monsters.  I believe that if they weren't made by Mego, but instead were made by Mattel (or something) as monster toys, they would not have much recognition at all.   I love the Super Heroes and Planet of the Apes and other Megos, but feel that the monsters are among the least of the line.

1975

I sort of like their interpretation of the monsters, so I guess it's all based on preference. I also think the castle playset is really a big motivator for me.

Dr.Terror

Megos are low on the totem pole for me simple because they aren't Universal.   The box art was fantastic, too bad the figures didn't look like it.  To me they feel like super villains as well, like Marvel characters.  I would put the AHIs at #1 on any other list but mine only because I never had one as a kid, only Remco's.   But for sheer overall coolness including packaging etc.., emotional attachments aside, AHI's are head and shoulders above the rest.

No emotion attached, I'd  put Remco at #2.  Licensed, decent likenesses (Great on some like the Wolfman) Amazing box art, an action feature to "Crush" their victims and they glowed in the dark!   Not to mention the Monsterizer!

The Monsterizer is one of the best Monster toys of the 70's/80's IMO. I've got both in my collection.

The Remco figures are really nicely done, the only thing I'd change on them is their bodies.
