I wasn't disparaging them though.

???

Never thought you were.

Just looking at the Palmers and reflecting on how poorly they would sell today.

I like 'em.

I don't know...

Just look how popular those "super-deformed" Japanese figures, POP vinyl, and Lego figures are.  ::) I think the Palmers look way better than any of those. Of course, I'm probably jaded because I grew up with the Palmers (and Best flats).

Here is a small list of colors that I'm aware of for the "palmer flats"

Red
Yellow
Blue
Pink
White
Turquoise
Gold
Silver
Purple
Grey
Black

Are there any others?

In the first image you'll see hints of red in the wolfman & a touch of yellow on creature.
The second photo shows a turquoise wolfman & the third photograph shows a purple caveman.

I wouldn't know Turquoise if I was looking at it. The pink ones look grey, to me and I don't think I've ever seen a purple, or black one?

I was curious as to what the Best monster flats are listed for currently and I'm a bit surprised as to these asking prices. There was a listing on eBay for a full set for $39 and several listings for individual monster flats for from $9-$20 each. I checked M&J Variety and they have a set listed for $39. Here's a pic:

It seems like just months ago M&J listed their complete sets for $10 each. I guess they became aware of what eBay sellers were asking and raised their price.

The Best Plastics monsters/cavemen set of 7 is very common. There must have been thousands of these found in warehouses since the '80s. There are several listings for them all the time on eBay. I doubt if many are being sold for those high asking prices.

The 14 Best Plastics dinosaurs/prehistoric animal figures are legitimately scarce. They turn up infrequently in eBay listings and I believe they really do have values of $10-$20 each because of supply and demand. The Best monster/cavemen flats should only be worth around $3 each IMO and I think if someone could catch an auction listing a set should sell for around $20. It just depends on how patient the buyer is because most of the time the listings are BIN with those high prices.

I checked some SOLD eBay listings for the Best monster/cavemen and they seem to be selling for around $4-$6 each (which is more than I thought). Here's one SOLD auction listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Flat-1960s-Best-Plastics-Palmer-Yellow-Halloween-Plastic-Figure-Toy-9pcs-/262801818703?hash=item3d3035844f:g:8xwAAOSwEzxYdRHj

Ten sold for $41 including sh. Another sold listing was a full set for $39. I didn't realize the common ones were selling for so much now. Still, some of those asking prices for individual Best monster/cavemen flats are just ridiculous IMO.

That was the price when I looked, not all that long age.

Yes, I remember you calling my attention to it. I guess the '60s monster toy pedigree forces value on even the cheapest item.  ;D

Beauties! I need a blue and green Creature, but they are so much more expensive than the red and yellow ones.

this is what they looked like when i first got them:

some monster kid "bloodied" them with what i believe was an enamel based red paint.

a few hours later... some good elbow grease and voila!
