Cool to see, Anton, thanks for posting 'em. It really makes me glad I didn't pop for the $3000 version (though I would of course love to have that as well...).

I think my only gripe (more like a quibble) is the minimalist approach to the art on the box. The last one had killer box art.

How did I miss a $3K version and what made it 10 times better?

Oh, that! I thought he meant a $3K Mondo Creature.

The Mondo essentially is that. Collaboration with Beto. Also, wanna hear something really weird? Someone on the Mondo collectors board received the entire shipping manifest for the Creature's production run. They only produced 564 of these. That seems very, very low. Pics of the manifest from Cellar Toys at SSF boards again.

Like I said, what makes it 10 times better? It has a lot less accessories.

It was originally a custom, limited to 20 numbered editions. Like Rainman Artworks, Beto is a renowned customizer. He charges what he wants to as a small indy, and people pay it.  It's not any "better", but its strictly a limited custom vs. the one we are getting. Which is preferable to me, and I assume you too.

With the caveat that I'm not privy to Mondo's business, I know the business in general and am extremely confident in saying that is not the entire production run. Anything is possible, of course, but I don't think (again, I don't know) that Mondo would have moved forward with the project if sales were that low, even though I believe (again, don't know) there will be other "regular" editions of the figure in color and b&w (and I would push that even further were it up to me). I suspect that's not even the totality of US orders. But even if 564 is the total number of sold NA units, there's always a control number, in case of damage, as well as whatever marketing distribution, internal distribution, licensor distribution, and company reference or archive hold. Interesting though that these seem to have been trucked to Austin for bistro rather than a fulfillment company in a port city (Houston), but that just adds to the likelihood that it was more than 564 pieces. It is wild that this paperwork was packed into a costumer order, but at least it's not every customer account address.

A friend who is really into Mondo chimed in on this. Apparently they made an exclusive Merman from masters of the Universe for a convention they were attending. For whatever reason, they only did 33 of them. so weirdly low production runs do occur with them.

Their first Creature has a limited stamp on the shipping box of 2400 I think

You'd probably know better than I, I was just repeating the story as it was posted. Just seemed seriously wonky.

Mike Scott

My Creature came today! Really underwhelming box.
