                                       Wilford Brimley
                      September 27, 1934  to  August 1, 2020

Starred in Cocoon, The Thing, The China Syndrome, The Natural, Absence of Malice

He looked like a character actor, but could have held the stage in Death of a Salesman as well as any actor who ever played Willy Loman.  Whenever he came on screen, I perked up 'cause I new I was gonna like whatever came next.

When he walked into the room in Absence of Malice, he took over the scene and stole the damn movie from under Paul Newman and Sally Field.  Seriously, If you have the chance. watch at least his scenes in that movie.  A force to be reckoned with.  Even when he played an irascible character, you couldn't help liking him.

How sad.  I met him and his wife working a convention. They were good people.  May he rip.

I remember he was the youngest of the cast of old people in Cocoon. He was only 50 (not old enough to be a real retiree) while most of the others were in their late 70s. Even the 2 youngest women were 60.

He was wonderful in that:

Memorable scene! (Though you do expect him to say something about Quaker Oats.)

Possible?

I've heard from other actors (in commentaries and interviews) that Ron Howard encourages it from them.
