PARASITE (2019) - Wow, what a film! A great achievement on many levels.
We saw it when it first came out in the theater. What an amazing labyrinth of a movie! Just when you think you have things figured out, you don't. It works as a comedy, a horror film, social commentary....a true work of art.

So true. Kept me glued to each scene and it was amazing trying to see where things were heading.

    "They come from the bowels of hell; a transformed race of walking dead. Zombies, guided by a master plan for complete domination of the Earth."

 Trumbo (2015) -
Excellent film about one of the darkest phases in Hollywood filmmaking history. Bryan Cranston plays blacklisted screenwriter, Dalton Trumbo, during the HUAC congressional hearings of the 50s. It's unbelievable that our country ever went through this. Great film with an uplifting ending. John Wayne was such a dick.

The Big Doll House -
Even Pam Grier doesn't make this women-in-prison film very watchable. Not only is it cliched, but the nudity is tame and unabundant. More T&A please. Nobody watches these for the plot subtleties or dialog.

Sure.  The same guys who read Playboy for the incisive articles.

Which is funny, because there has been legitimately great stuff in Playboy other than the nudes.  Hefner had an incredible eye for cartoonists and the magazine had multiple examples of good - great fiction published in it.  He could have split that magazine into two (nudes/written material & cartoons) and they would've both been world class periodicals.

Even when I was young, I liked the interviews and the articles about modular stereo systems.

Modular Stereos?!?!  ::)

Yeah.  When stereo was new, guys with serious systems bought them piece-by-piece.  Amplifiers, pre-amps, turntables, reel-to-reel tape decks, radio receivers, speakers (tweeters, mid-range and woofers) - it was a really big deal.  Quadraphonic sound complicated things even more.

Playboy had lots of articles about the latest (and most expensive) equipment in almost every issue.  They would have a two or three part article about selecting the perfect stylus.

A killer sound system was considered essential to every well-equipped bachelor pad.

I would read all this crap though I hardly had enough money to buy the magazine.

Didn't you read the personal data on the backs of the fold-outs?

"Miss October's favorite color combination is puce and mauve.  Her hobbies are playing bluegrass banjo and knitting patriotic cummerbunds."

Very educational stuff.

Hell, I didn't even know those things had backs. They were just taped to my bathroom wall.
