But to the VAST majority of the public the monster is Frankenstein.
You've completely missed my point, and that's that they are not stuck with the main title character, and as I said the monster is the star. You can call it whatever name you like, but the design is what sells (i.e monster vs man). Your best seller is going to be the one you have front and center on the poster. Frankenstein has the monster, Caligari has Cesare. That's what the marketers are promoting, and that's the design that will be the most desired for collectors. But again, my point is that its not required to stick only to the named character in the title. It's a free country, they can do what they want, and if they think an old man is a better seller than the monster, well, alrighty then. General Public confusion as to the name of the Frankenstein Monster doesn't change that. If you make ONE figure from Island of Dr Moreau, I would prefer Bela as The Sayer of the Law (hands down!! Though I'd definitely be down for Moreau himself)

I have to admit I do rather like the sculpt. But I'm going to pass until the inevitable color variant. All of my Universal Monsters are in color, I'll wait for a Caligari that can fit in (just my preference, no hate for those who prefer the b&w version)

And, as another grown adult with family and responsibilities as I "gripe" about an $18 toy, I don't feel like I need to buy everything Super7 churns out. I too am pleased that we're getting stuff based on 70 year old films, but lets be real here - they aren't doing it out of kindness, its a business decision, based mainly on the fact that these are public domain designs that they don't have to license or pay a fee for the rights to do so. Mezco already beat them to the punch well over a decade ago as it is. But if they'd made the creator of Maria instead of Maria, I'd have been severely disappointed. I'm honestly not that upset about Caligari, and I hope I'm not coming off like I am (conveying tone on the internet is always an "art"), I'm just shrugging my shoulders here "whatever". I really just want them both. Speaking of Maria, I did see a Chrome Silver variant in the new 2020 display picture, the version I've been wanting all along, so I'm stoked for that.

So, as someone who would bet money that someone from Super7 stops by to see the free market research and feedback posted here, I'm just putting it out into the universe what I'm willing to spend money on. If you look at their trends, they seem to put out an average of one Public Domain figure per year. At least with Nosferatu they went with the color version first. I do hope we eventually get Cesare, and to me, its more of an oversight to have Caligari without Cesare than it is to have Dracula without Renfield. He's a monster-creator without his monster. And if I'm going to spend $40 on Cabinet of Caligari figures, I'd rather have Caligari & Cesare rather than Caligari b&w and color. Their pricing has made me super selective on variants now.

And for the poster that pointed out the arm color making him look like he's wearing a vest, I do hope they correct that with their inevitable color variant.

Also wanted add for whatever its worth: their newest Iron Maiden figures are great, and the soft goods duster jacket on Stranger In A Strange Land is just fantastic! The hat does not come off btw. So if they want to start working in more soft goods for future figures, they are off to a great start! In fact, I can already say this figure is likely going to be in my top 5 of 2020.

As I've said I love Super7 and most of what they're doing, and I've been to two of their Boo-Dega stores and loved 'em-- but at $18 a pop plus shipping I just can't keep pulling the trigger on these.   Whoever is doing the new Scooby Doo figures (Hasbro?) gives you TWO 6" figures for $6-- I realize Super7 is a niche toy maker and has nowhere near the power of a place like Hasbro but 3x the price for 1/5 the amount of plastic seems pretty nuts.

The $18 per figure price point is absurd. It really is. The problem is people (including myself) are still buying them so they have no incentive to lower it. The 3.75" figures are my extreme weakness (especially in the classic horror/sci-fi realm) and I can't control myself. I actually didn't buy anything from them for 3 months after they raised the price but the Wave 2 of Universal Monsters sucked me back in.

I'm still miffed about Caligari's unpainted/gray arms ;(

I'm psyched about the new Maiden figures. In addition to the UM, I collect most of the Super 7 Rock/Metal Figures (Iron Maiden, King Diamond, Slayer, Megadeth, Motorhead, Misfits).

I love the Misfits figures. I have every single one. They look awesome all together.

Well those Misfits look glorious all together like that. I only have the first 2 released and the Remo variant but they are great figures and i quite fancy the new Iron Maiden one with the soft goods jacket on, very nice.

The first pictures of what's coming have been released at Toy Fair and there are a few nice new things - https://news.toyark.com/2020/02/22/toy-fair-2020-super7-reaction-figures-379849

Cool! Creature Walks is pretty nice. They always overdo the lipstick, though.

Must be a Lugosi rights thing on Ygor?

I'll de-lipstick this Creature just like I did the last two. I'm glad to get the character even though I loathe the movie.

Glad we're seeing Quasimodo, he looks great!

I've gotta temper my excitement because I know wr won't get these til October. Le sigh

Completely agree with all this but especially the Creature Walks Among Us. I dislike the entire concept of the movie so much I haven't even allowed my son (HUGE Creature fan) know it exists for fear it will ruin it all for him. Glad to get the figure though.

I always made up a better ending in my head.

You have to consider: The Gill Man has regenerative capabilities. He heals from burns and stabs and gunshot wounds in previous films. Perhaps the stuff done to him in the third film were much more drastic than previous damage... but why couldn't he regenerate from this setback as well given time?

I say that Jeff Morrow's cold and jealously paranoid husband/scientist was wrong after operating in the Creature. He was too wrapped up in his own insecurities AND didn't take into account the Gill Man's previous injuries and ability to overcome them. So in the movie, what we don't see is the changes IN the Creature's body. After he hops off that operating table his tissues begin the process of regrowing his inner gills and amphibious breathing organs. The end of the film shows him looking longingly at the crashing waves. Everyone assumes that he's about to go in and drown but the Creature knows the real score. He keeps to the caves of this rocky cliff side, testing his breathing capabilities underwater and slowly, stealthily makes his way back to the Black Lagoon. Kind of like how certain animals have an innate sense of direction when the time comes to migrate during the seasons. All the while he also regenerates his normal appearance. And because the lousy scientists from the movie(s) now believe him to be dead, nobody comes back to look for him to study/exploit. I figure by 1957 he's gotten back to the Lagoon and by early 1959 he looks like his old self again. The only person with any real knowledge of the Gill Man is Lucas and after hearing that the Black Lagoon has been reclaimed by the Creature he decides to keep Mum about it to the scientific world and let the Creature have his peace (and save the lives of anybody fool enough to come looking again).

THE END

I also did this in my head to explain how Ygor's brain is removed and we get the Karloff creature's old brain back  again after "Meets The Wolfman".
