October 27, 2016 will mark the 50th Anniversary of the "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" Peanuts TV Special.

To mark the occasion, Warner Home Video has issued what they are calling their "Peanuts 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition" Blu-Ray disc.  At least, that's what the outer cardboard slip-cover says.

On closer inspection, the blue slip-case has a banner across the top front proclaiming "Peanuts 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition" and printed in on the back the sentence, "Package Design & Supplementary Material Compilation © 2016..."

The orange the inner DVD case label makes no mention of any "anniversary" or claim to being "deluxe" in some way.  The same copyright line, occupying the same position on the back reads, "Package Design & Supplementary Material Compilation © 2010..."  That's right, campers, the SAME Blu-Ray that was issued six years ago with a "50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition" wrapper slapped on for good measure.

All "special features" and all other verbiage is identical.

If I had been buying this movie as an upgrade over a 2010 Blu-Ray I already owned, I would be sorely disappointed and more than a little pissed.  As it is, my main aim was just to have a nice Blu-Ray copy for the 50th Anniversary of when I first saw this little gem of a Halloween show.

To Charlie and all the gang I wish a Happy 50th Anniversary and a visit from The Great Pumpkin, Himself!

To the Brothers Warner...  Well, I don't know how to make this thing give out a big, juicy raspberry - but I hope someone soaps all your windows and you get nothing but road apples in your treat bags.
