As D.C. prepares to onslaught movie screens with their own shared cinematic universe, they are also looking to push other projects (that may or may not end up in the shared cinematic universe).  One of these projects is Justice League Dark (working title, Dark Universe) with Guillermo del Toro spearheading.  The film would see John Constantine recruiting the likes of Swamp Thing, Etrigan the Demon, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Spectre and Zatanna to go up against an as yet unnamed villian/evil.  The film will not contain origins for the bulk of the characters and is unrelated to the current Constantine tv show (or previous film) although Del Toro has stated he would keep Matt Ryan as a contender to reprise the role in the new film (sorry Keanu).

I would assume that if this ends up getting a "justice league" in the title that it will be considered part of the shared universe.

This could be very interesting (I always liked Spectre and Deadman) as long as they don't go for the incomprehensible "artiness" of Ghost Rider 2.
Supernatural, perhaps; baloney, perhaps not.

I hope they can pull this off. I'm a big fan of the JLD comic, so I'm totally down. The Frankenstein monster is a prominent member in the JLD book, so I hope they consider putting his character in the film. They should put the vampire Andrew Bennett in there too.

I'm getting used to Matt Ryan playing Constantine so I hope the studio figures out way to integrate the cinematic and television universes.

Unlike Marvel, D.C. is keeping all of their television and cinematic universes separate (and even some of the movies/tv shows won't be connected to their respective universes).  The most this could play out as is an alternate universe were Constantine is the same guy; if they go with Matt Ryan.

BTW: you guys see DC is cancelling Justice League Dark comic? That's disappointing. They're ending Swamp Thing and GI Zombie too. Constantine will be the only "dark universe" title left. Over the years they canceled Demon Knights, I Vampire, Frankenstein, and Resurrection Man (prob my fav of the bunch).

I'm not crazy about current JLD story-line, but I still really like the overall concept.

There's actually a whole new title called Dark Universe coming that serves as a spiritual successor. I think this adjustment to the Dark Universe title might bode well for Guillermo Del Toro's project of the same name.

I just watched Constantine: City of Demons last night and thought it was very good. If u like animated films and/or DC horror then I highly recommend. I really like the Justice League Dark animated film too. That film has Swamp Thing, Constantine, Dead Man, Zatanna, Etrigan the Demon, Black Orchid and appearances by Batman, Wonder Woman, and Super Man if i remember.

I know this is not TV thread, but Constantine is regular character on Legends of Tomorrow now. I was already fan of the show, but especially like that Constantine brings more horror elements to series.

Yay for Swamp Thing! Here are scans of five of my Swamp Thing comics:

Those are some sweet Swamp Thing covers Hep! ST is prob my fav DC character.

Too bad about TV show getting cancelled. It's getting great reviews. I believe they've introduced other DC horror characters already, like Blue Devil, Madame Xanadu, and Phantom Stranger. The suits at WB cancelled it after one freakin' episode. So stupid.  I hope CW will pick it up, or at least bring Swampy over. There's precedent for that. CW took on Supergirl when CBS walked away, and CW brought Constantine over to Arrowverse when NBC dropped that show.

Looks like HBO has a Justice League Dark show in development. I'm all for it of course. It is puzzling though, considering Swamp Thing only lasted one season on the DC streaming network. ST is an important member of the JLD. I'm still confused about why that show was cancelled. I have the blue-ray set but haven't watched it yet. Pretty much universal praise for the series, so I have high expectations. IDK if this show will be part of the Swamp Thing show universe, or something new?? Interesting and exciting news though.

My favorite comics are Horror/Monster comics from the Silver/Bronze ages so I would love to see more offerings featuring the DC Horror characters with continuity. Also, I'm really looking forward to the MCU delving into dark places with their own sub-universe of Monster characters. Hopefully the upcoming Dr. Strange flick featuring the Multiverse Of Madness will get that ball rolling. The original John Buscema version of Mephisto should be the Big Bad in the MCHU.
ALWAYS MONSTERING...

I should probably mention this in TV thread, but anyhow just wanted to point out Enchantress made her first appearance in the Arrowverse this week. She appeared on an episode of Legends of Tomorrow (which also has John Constantine). I'm really intrigued about this HBO JLD project. Swamp Thing, Madame Xandu, Blue Devil, and I think Phantom Stranger appeared on that cancelled Swamp Thing series. Meanwhile, the Arrowvese features John Constantine and now Enchantress. I wonder if HBO is going with totally new actors, or will they connect to these pre-existing shows? The cancelled Swamp Thing did make a cameo in the Arrowverse Crisis crossover, so we know those shows co-exist in the multiverse. I'm totally nerding out on this and I love it.  :D

BigShadow

This could be a good idea if done properly.  the comic was/is a good read and very dark.  If they kept that same theme I think it could work.  Hopefully they don't make light of the characters and try to implement too much humor.  However, Del Toro should do a good job as his previous track record has proven.  I'm looking forward to this show/movie and anticipating a very dark and powerful villain.
