A seller on the Bay lists-  1964 A J Renzi vintage Monster Car. It is a 2 passenger coupe. It has been painted black, and the 2 monster passengers are repro. Do any of you have knowledge that there was a 2 passenger Renzi Monster Car produced in '64?

Probably painted a different Renzi car black to look like the monster car.

Like this blue one.

As usual, there's already a thread on this in the UMA. (And as usual, I posted in it and have forgot all about it!) The blue car was called the "Hot Rod", while the monster one was called the "Monster Mobile".

What's crazy is that this same seller sold a REPRO of the Renzi car for $870 on Ebay about 1.5 months ago.

I felt bad for the buyer, who I thought was being foolish. I would have sold or traded my spare Renzi car to him/her for less.

If I drop that kind of dough it's going to be for a real Renzi Monster Mobile. I don't see that much value in these repros and customs.
ALWAYS MONSTERING...

I looked up the listing and the car was real (though painted black), but the figures were repros.

Here's a link to the $800 repro Renzi monster mobile. Even though the description says the car is painted black and the monsters are repros, I still think the bidders thought they were competing for a genuine monster mobile. The title does not mention that it is a repro/fantasy piece. The "disclaimer" text is somewhat buried in the description. The photos look like the real deal. I remember seeing this listing and being fooled at first. I also remember reading the description and shaking my head. If the winning bidder knew full well that it was a repro item and still paid $800, well, I hope he/she gets $800 worth of enjoyment out of it. The seller might have stumbled on a new cottage industry: fake monster mobiles.

What do you think a Renzi "Hot Rod", in original condition, should go for?

My thoughts exactly! The answer is that there was no Monster Mobile Coupe produced in '64 by Renzi. I don't care for the title he has given this item although at first look I was impressed with the possibility of a '64 Monster Mobile Coupe. With all the customization out there I can understand this item so long as it is very well described for what it is and isn't.

A very good question! This is my first sighting of a Renzi coupe "hot rod". They may be few and far between. I'd be ok with buying one in the $40-50 range.

I sent the seller this note:

The description of this item is very misleading! The Renzi "Hot Rod" (2-door coupe) never had passengers. Only the 4-door "Monster Mobile" had the monster passengers. You should be clear that this is a "marriage" and that Renzi didn't make a monster coupe.

Really! Amazing what adding a couple of monsters can do!
