My latest:

COUNT DRACULA'S GREAT LOVE(1972)

Blu-ray & dvd double disc great release of a very nicely cleaned up print. Paul Naschy is the Count masquerading as a sanitarium doctor while trying to obtain the right sort of blood to revive his vampire daughter. Long available only in an inferior dvd release this comes with a commentary from Naschy himself along with other extras. Worth checking out for fans of Eurohorror and Naschy films!! From Vinegar Syndrome

DARK SHADOWS:

David Collins: "Dead people dont just get up and walk around.."

Sarah Collins: "Sometimes they do."

Mike...In 3-D!

These showed up yesterday!:

They were a bit pricey, but since the claim is that they're only getting one run I couldn't chance missing out on these.

I just got through watching the Best Buy Blu-Ray of this movie.

It has the same extra features that are found in the DVD issue and the BLU-Ray image doesn't seem to be a tremendous improvement.  The big deal is it has the 3D version included.

I did notice one odd thing:  At the 55:22 mark Carlson is seen walking off alone into the desert to find Rush, who had just been kidnapped by the Xenomorph.  The picture fades to black and fades back up with Carlson, looking tired and cold, leaning against a rock.  That is just as it appears in the DVD, with one exception.  On the Blu-Ray, we are shown a card that reads "Intermission" in the middle of the blackout.  Never saw that before on any version of the film.

Was there ever a time when this 81 minute film had an Intermission at the 55 minute mark?  I can't recall ever seeing it in the theater when it was new, on TV, or any home video version I have ever seen.

Anyone?

That is odd? You think of movies like BEN HUR and HOW THE WEST WAS WON, when you think of intermissions.

MONSTER OF PIEDRAS BLANCAS seems like a great print-quality on the DVD.  I had forgotten that this was a fairly dreadful film, and certainly showing the monster's body in longer timings lessens just about any horror beyond "How can he WALK in that outfit?"

I am surprised that Les Tremayne is listed in one of the starring credits, whereas the sniveling lighthouse keeper John Harmon appears in more scenes, albeit fewer lines, I suppose.

The town constable, Forrest "Don't hang me by my ears, Ma!" Lewis is also splitting dialog and screen-time with Tremayne, but obviously the Don "Never a teen idol" Sullivan and Jeanne "Puff out my chest" Carmen were the hopeful ticket-draws.

I think, "NO" was the ultimate answer to that pipedream.

This should have been a much better film but I wonder if the weirdo-looking humans (Sullivan, Jeanne, Forrest) were stranger looking without makeup than the monster was in full costume.  That can't be a good formula for success.

There are plenty worse ones. Considering that nearly everything '50s sci-fi/monster had already been released, it was high on my wants list.  ;D

Hi everyone, I'm a long time lurker but this is my first post.
As far as the intermission card from ICFOS its there so they could do a reel change at that point in the theatres.
They used both projectors for the 3D and the largest reel only held about 50 minutes of film.
I got that information from the CHFB earlier today.

THANKS!

They said something about changing reels in the commentary or extra featurette - I don't think they really explained why, or I forgot.  They screwed up and left it in the 2D version on this disc.

WELCOME, New Blood!  And Good first post!

Anybody know what "My Scenes" in the special features in the Frank and WM bluray sets is?

Looks like you can earmark favorite scenes with a beginning time and ending time.

Then the chosen scene can be recalled from the menu a latter time - just like going directly to a "Chapter".
