Reminds me of an old SNL(?) sketch where you're at the scene of the crime and the murderer pretends to be a statue and stabs more victims when nobody (except one guy, who keeps warning everyone) is looking.

Right! That is the premise of these creatures..they are "Quantum locked", so that they can only move when they are not being observed. However, even if you blink or the lights are out, they can get you.  They rest of the time, they look like stone angel statues..they only turn ugly when they are about to attack. They dont speak which only adds to their creepiness.
