I thought this one would be easy. Anyway, here are some hints:

1- It's in the Animal Horror subgenre, like Ben, Grizzly, and Jaws.

2- It's by a regional filmmaker who there's a cool Blu-ray documentary out on.

3- My quip about hillbilly-speak above is a little misleading. Maybe swampbilly...
