I've always loved "Blacula" (1972) and "Scream, Blacula, Scream" (1973) since I was a little monster watching them with my Mother on channel 9 in the 1970s. "Sugar Hill" (1974) is one of my favorite zombie movies (those silver eyed zombies are cooler than CGI zombies that run fast). I first got to see "Dr. Black, Mr. Hyde " (1976) when Elvira aired it on her show back in the 1980s. "Blackenstein" (1973) I finally got to see recently. I don't think it was a good as the others I've listed, but still good fun. I like that some of the equipment from the original 1931 "Frankenstein" was used in the movie.

Are most of these blaxsploitation films on dvd or blu ray? Seems like I see a lot of the same ones availabe over and and over. Any good collections?
It's all about the Horror.

Trust me, most of these films are better enjoyed on thrashed VHS copies, like all good grindhouse and exploitation films. Save the Blu-ray for pretentious crap like Avatar

A good start is the Pam Grier flesh-fest "Fox in a Box" released by Vibe, featuring Coffy, Foxy Brown, Sheba Baby, and a 4th disc with bonus features. Of course, the one any collection must include is Tarentino's very best, "Jackie Brown" featuring the coolest collection of characters this side of Sin City (Frank Miller's Sin City, not Las Vegas). Some people might disagree that this is "blaxploitation", but according to Taranino it is and was intended to be.

As much as I enjoyed Jackie Brown, to me it isn't Blaxploitation. Sure, you've got the lovely Pam Grier in the title role (and Sam Jackson as a scumbag baddie), but all the other players are white good guys. It doesn't have that gritty feel that the 70s flicks had. I feel the same way about Kill Bill and Inglorious Basterds; they are good films in their own right, but merely QT's homages to the respective genres.

Kinda made me want to puke out my popcorn. Hey, even Kate Winslet didn't care for it (and it made her a star). Last Cameron film I could stomach was "True Lies".

I agree on the blu-ray part. Most of my dvd's on blaxsploitation look thrashed. I'm just hunting for good titles or collections. I think i got most of the soul cinema double features? I think i'm missing a couple but can't find a list for them.
