The Hideous Sun Demon
I had forgotten all about this little gem.

The Hideous Sun Demon -- bad??? How can anyone not love a face like this, one of the great monsters ever:

And for a real laugh checkout "The Revenge of the Sun Demon" where Jay Leno re-dubs the entire original film with hilarious dialogue -- ala Woody Allen's "What's Up Tiger Lily?"

"Do you know what I've got in those crates?"

Sorry, I already have yours ready.

I prefer "Assman" but that'll do nicely.

Wow, no "Microwave Massacre" or "Scream Bloody Murder"? Not even "The Devil's Wedding Night"?

Totally Microwave Massacre. I own a VHS/DVD copy.  How about Drive-in Massacre, Satan's Cheerleaders, The
Undertaker and His Pals or Carnival of Blood?

Who says these films are bad? Some film critic? Some hyper-opinionated/self-appointed arbiter of taste? Shouldn't it be enough that you like a film? If so, then why do you need to make excuses/justify your tastes in films?

Sorry if this seems a little "ranty" sounding, but I simply detest the idea of "guilty pleasures."

I think the term "guilty pleasure" is a very appropriate term.  There are movies that people do enjoy, myself included, that are not very good.  For instance, I am watching a movie right now called The Alien Factor.  I'm not sure how many people have seen it, I think it was only in the theatres for about an hour.  I read about the movie in Famous Monsters of Filmland and looked for it but it did not come to a theatre near me; I saw it on TV one afternoon.  The movie is about an alien who was transporting alien animals to an interplanetary zoo and crashed on Earth.  The pilot was killed and the animals were set free to attack the nearby town.  Another alien, in human disguise, comes to Earth to capture or kill the animals.  The movie has an interesting plot, but about halfway through watching it I decided that this movie needed three things to make it a good movie:
1—A script
2—A director
3—Some actors
I own the movie and watch it every so often.  Am I watching a good movie?  No, I'm not.  Can I convince myself it's not as bad as I think?  No, I can't.  Is this a movie I think of when I want to talk about good movies?  It doesn't even come to mind.  Do I enjoy watching it?  Yes.  Can't explain it, I just do.  And if someone raised an eyebrow when I mention I own the movie?  I'd shrug, and simply say "For some reason, I like it."

Everyone is guilty of enjoying bad films. Some might watch a movie I absolutely enjoy and some think I am crazy or weird.  I have probably watched more bad films than good? That's okay with me. Most Hollywood films
Blow Goats. With the exception of the true classic films.

C'mon now.........some movies are EMPIRICALLY bad in ways that go beyond mere opinion.

This is not just one guy's OPINION of a bad alien costume. IT'S BAD.

This isn't awful dialogue in just opinion..........it IS awful dialogue.
Bela Lugosi - Beware of the dragon!

These special effects don't just seem bad in one guy's opinion..........they suck.
MST3K Top 5 - Worst Special Effects (aka They just didn't care)

This isn't bad acting based solely on opinion...........it's the pits!
Johnny Mnemonic - The infamous "Room Service" scene

Opinion isn't the sole arbiter of quality. Some things are self-evidently BAD.

Much thanks for highlighting how some of these can be bad. Apparently we have a few film scholars on here who cant or wont accept that not every film is CASABLANCA or GONE WITH THE WIND. Like it or not, many of these films ARE bad, due to budget, production flaws or just plain inept filmmaking. Many of these are universally accepted as poor or "bad" films by overwhelming majority of film critics, scholars and even the studios themselves, and yes, the public, too.  They can still be enjoyed for varying reasons to be sure, however, it still doesnt change what calibre they are because of that.

I guess I will be the one to admit. I NEVER thought Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, or other so-called Oscar worthy films were that special or fantastic. Now that doesn't mean I don't respect film-goers who enjoy those films. I chose
not to watch, and have watched the over-the-top Hollywood production. Honestly, there are far better films than,
Casablanca and Gone with......

If any of the Hollywood films I will watch, it would be: Ben Hur, the Godfather, Planet of the Apes, Sunset Blvd., and any
Universal, WB, Hammer, etc. Those films and studios to me produced some of the finest classic films. Again, just because a film is low-budget, does not mean it is worse than a Hollywood produced film. To the contrary.
