Count Zachula

Happy New Year boils and ghouls! I wanted to share my Christmas haul, mainly from my girlfriend who always spoils me to no end every year. Check it out.

Congrats! That's a very nice haul, indeed.

I like these crude little figures.

They remind me of the typical Japanese toys that were sold in the '50's, when I was a kid.  That was back when "Made In Japan" stamped on the bottom of a product meant "Cheap and Inferior".

Toys with detailing like Sideshow's 8-inch figures would have would have astounded '50's kids.

I also like the fact that these were sold blind, in identical boxes.  You either had to buy a whole case, or know another person who was buying these and trade your duplicates.

I was told that these were marketed by a Japanese candy company.  But I have never seen an unopened box.  Was there actually candy inside with the figure - à la baseball cards and gum?

Yes this box was unopened and had candy in it.

Please post a picture of the candy - if you haven't already eaten it.

Please post a picture of the candy -

As far as I remember, it wasn't anything interesting. Just some hardtack in a cello wrapper.

Oddly enough, the character name is marked on the outside of the package for this series.  The white square above the picture of the Frankenstein's monster figurine lists figure C. 狼男, which is the Wolf Man. If I remember correctly, these did have a hard milk candy in them. The series was an exclusive to a Japanese department store.

I finally got in contact with Amok and they have a Frankenstein and Dracula available. So I ordered.
I post a pic of the candy later tonight after work

Funny, I never noticed the "A, B, C..." on the boxes before.

Glad to see there's something to blindly collect that's fair because it has a hidden answer.

Funny you should say that, my original set of these were bought by a friend of a friend's grandmother the day they went on sale in Tokyo. She gamely trekked out to pic them up for us, but ended up getting doubles of the Wolf Man (C) and one less of the Mole Man (G). Not because she didn't read Japanese, she was a native speaker, but because the lettering was too small for her to read clearly!
