If you want to view Paradise, simply look around and view it.

Speaking of Dionne Warwick, here's one I really like:

Dionne Warwick - Don't Make Me Over - Live 1963

I like the contrast between the young girl so awkwardly stuffed into the formal gown and the raw power of her voice.

The story behind the track is really good. Hal David and Burt Bacharach had told a young Dionne Warwick that they were working on a song for her, but ended up giving it to another singer. When Dionne demanded to know why, the two hemmed and hawed about how the other girl was better suited for the song. She burst into tears at the implied criticism and snapped "Don't make me over, man, accept me for what I am!" Hal David and Burt Bacharach looked at each other with the stunned realization that they'd just found the sentiment they needed to turn their young ingenue into a recording sensation!

;)

She'd never be this good again, because, you know, they did ultimately succeed in making her over.

Excellent and accurate remarks, except, despite all those wonderful hits, did they "succeed" in making her over?   ;)  They certainly succeeded in turning a huge talent into a hit machine.  Don't misunderstand, I get you and you are so right, that recording (to which she's lip-synching) is her best and my favorite... after this:
The Windows of the World - Dionne Warwick sings Bacharach, Hal David
That "Windows of the World" recording is a tribute to DIONNE, sure, but also BURT BACHARACH and HAL DAVID's great songwriting abilities.

Your remarks are insightful and wonderful, Vay

This is my other favourite tune by Dionne Warwick:

Dionne Warwick - Anyone Who Had A Heart

And here it is with modern production glitz added to it:

Atomic Kitten - Anyone Who Had A Heart (Loose Women 2008)

It's funny though how things have come full circle. I suspect my father at whose old-fashioned tastes I once sneered would prefer the overproduced modern version. So now I'm the old-fashioned one. Not that it's a problem. I'm still a rebel because now I can sneer at the iPod wearing Beyonce loving crowd!
