OK, not a genre star--but a big, big star--forever remembered by this fan for things like HUD, COOL HAND LUKE, LONG HOT SUMMER, CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID, THE STING, and so many more.  Can we say "near genre" with Hitchcock's TORN CURTAIN?  Another fine actor missing from the roll call now.  Paul Newman, 1925-2008

COOL HAND LUKE is a great film that is fun to watch over and over.  He also started Newman's Own line of foods in which the proceeds go to charity.  Looks like his first listing as an actor at IMDB has him in an episode of TALES OF TOMORROW.  There's a genre role after all.  Don't forget his funny hockey movie SLAP SHOT.  That's a big fan favorite too.

The Hustler (1961) or The Verdict (1982) were my favorites from him  RIP Mr. Newman.

I remember "The Sting" when it came out back in `72 or `73, I was still in South Carolina at the time.  This and "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" were probably his two I liked best. Rest well Mr.Newman.

I was just watching Torn Curtain yesterday on TCM and was thinking about how Paul Newman was doing because I was aware he was in the fatal stages of Cancer. Sadly, I got my answer when I turned on the news today. I wasn't a huge Newman fan per say but I always liked him and thought he'd be around forever (what I mean by that is that I thought of him as a star I didn't expect to go for a number more years).

SLAP SHOT is one of my all-time favourite films. If he had to learn to cuss, I'm glad it was from doing that movie. Also, with a disabled son, I greatly respect the charity work afforded by his not-for-profit food enterprises (and for those of you who haven't sampled Paul Newman's Own foods, I highly recommend them; plus, the labels are funny).
One of the greats by any and all measures and accounts, who will be sadly missed. RIP.

PAUL NEWMAN was human, and, still, brightly, shone,
The Star, of many movies, his craft, of Acting, to hone,
Yet, to him, there was, much, more,
His generous Charities, galore,
Making Heaven, on Earth, he was quite near, when GOD called him HOME!

PAUL NEWMAN, REST IN PEACE!

Awesome man.  Watch Ebay for those trying to capitalize on his passing.

I dug out my copy of the Paul Newman film, "Nobody's Fool" to watch while I remembered him.

If you haven't seen this one, I recommend it highly.  It is a thoughtful, but very funny, character study of an older guy living in upstate New York.

I'm missing him today.

One of my favourites too Adam as well as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting
all of which grace the shelves of my movie collection.

"Somebody up there likes me" was always one of my favorites. I believe it was the first film I seen him star in.
