I had my bid in and had planned to bid again at the end ALA snipe, I was thinking around $700 due to its rough condition. But figured it would go for more considering the prices blowmold monster items have been bringing lately. and $820 still isnt bad considering these were bringing $2,000 to $3,000 a few years ago, however a minty yellow one sold on ebay last year for only $1,200. This black one was in much worse condition than that one. the foot was mangled, paint was very scratched up, nose was dented, and the plug was cut out badly.  I was bummed to see the seller end the auction and relist it with a BIN that they worked out with whoever did buy it, I was curious to see the end result of the auction. I think I might  have even gone to $1000 just because I want one so bad. To my knowledge No one knows who made these or when they came out, some speculate they were made in mexico (i highly doubt it) some think they were carnival toys, i think they could have been packed in easter basket arrangements. I want a Frank really bad to stand beside my KING KONG bank from the same maker. of which There have been 2 kongs found, a yellow plastic one with black paint that Nekrodave has, and a black plastic one which I found and added to my collction this year. there are several frankensteins in various collections, probably still under 10 that i have seen on the internet. Either way It would sure be nice to learn where these banks came from, and I hope no one ever repros them.
Mirabile dictu,don't you agree?

I thought of your big Kong when i saw this Frank F73! I didnt know they were a set as it were. Do you know if they made any other monsters?

These are the only two monsters made like this that i know of, and the variations I have seen are =
     1. Yellow molded plastic frankensteins. - around 5 or so in different collections, assuming some werent sold and were the same bank? (i think the yellow one that was on ebay last year was originally the Generals and the guy he sold it to was selling it) never found out who bought it....
     2. Black molded plastic franks with green painted head, hands, and sometimes the shirt. - around 4 or 5 in different collections, and one of those was repainted.
      3.  1 yellow molded plastic KING KONG it is painted black, the paint was peeling and scratched bad, dont know if paint was factory or not? (nekrodaves)
       4. 1 molded black plastic KING KONG with factory painted eyes and teeth. (mine)

As much as I like these Franks, I think I like the King Kong even more. It's kinda squatchy.

Two things make me suspect the seller had no idea what the bank might be worth.

1.  He began the original listing at $19.99.

2.  He has the thin blowmold plastic toy standing in front of a HEATER VENT!!!

Yikes-heater vent! I really like both the Franky and Kong. The Franky's body looks to be based on the Big Franky kit but the head is definitely different. It never ceases to amaze me how much the Aurora kits influenced all kits of Universal monster toys throughout the 60s and 70s.

I passed on this because I have the black one and the yellow one... Someone got a very good deal. The seller got taken. I am convinced the head is based on the Frankenstein soakie, because it looks just like it when it has no paint.

Confidentially to General Fmompls: The yellow one I refer to is your old one. He eventually found his way to my collection, albeit in a more circuitous fashion than I expected. Anytime you want to visit him, just LMK,

No problem, Bobby. There are obvious differences, of course... the forehead scar has stitches across it, which the soakie lacks. The ears are a little more forward-facing in the Frankie Banky, as opposed to completely flat against the head in the soakie. But the inlfuence is definitely there. There is no other classic monster toy that it could have more likely drawn its inspiration from for the face...

My feeling on the condition issues?

My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun
Coral is far more red than her lips red
If snow be white, then her breast is dun
If hair be wires, black wires she has on her head
.... Yet by heaven I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare
