Won this on ebay today...I have two complete sets of blue and orange Marx Monsters. All in terrific shape except for my orange Creech...he's all there, just a bit more worn than the others. Can't really complain, as i got him at a flea market about 20 years ago for a quarter! ANYWHO...here's the replacement i won today. Paid way more than 25 cents this time, but this one is in unusually good shape. Will post more pics when i get it. ;D

Mike (Gasport), this messes me up. I'm in need of a teal Creature, but keep running into what claims to be vintage Marx but is suspicious. I looked over the one you got....... I was nervous that the base lettering wasn't photographed, and that the description of lettering in the one circle was only "Louis Marx & Co Inc", not mentioning the Roman numerals that must be present. I have a DEFINITE re-pro Creech with the exact wording in the circles as described on yours. My experience has shown me examples with the Roman Numerals missing or neatly covered and cast as a raised rectangle in the circle. I may be wrong but that indicates a re-pro to me.....and I've let acouple sellers know they are possibly being false calling their figure vintage. Also, since I'm being such a downer, it has finally dawned on the Mexicans that attempting to duplicate the original color would work to their advantage. Orange and blue 6" Marx re-pros are getting harder to spot. Anyway.......good luck, and let us know that all turned out right......Buddy

Actually, a very helpful one. I'm wondering what the verdict is now.

Hey Bud....all valid concerns on your part, and questions like this are a big part of what makes this group so great. I guess anything is possible, Both my teal and current orange Creech have the rectangular bar across the the roman numeral date. The teal version i own is around ten years old [i lose track] and was bought off ebay. The orange was bought during the mid 80's at a flea market for 25 cents and shows all the play wear you'd expect to see on a toy, which at that time was about 20 years old.  I have yet to see a Mexican repro that truly captures the look, color and feel of the original Marx monsters. Again, this is just my experience. I also own a complete set of the very first Mexican monsters from the later 80's molded in dark blue...they, too have the rectangular bar across the date, but have a made in Mexico sticker on them too. I own a few more recent repros and the sloppy uncut flashing and weird textures let me know in no uncertain terms they are not original. I guess the final verdict will be reserved for when my new orange Creech arrives. My only guide was the sellers perfect feedback and how his pics looked to me. Until then, here are a couple of pics of my authentic original Creech along with the info on his base.

Mike....this is good, real good. Maybe we can come to an understanding of what to actually look for in an original 6" Marx figure.  I own the 6 Marx 6" monsters in teal only. The Creech is the dark blue Mex repro you mention as an early repro. All five others are without a doubt old and original and every one of them clearly has MCMLXIII in the circle. Surely there is a UMAer that can give a definitive answer to spotting a repro. As for color, it has been a comfort for many years that the Mexicans have been unwilling or unable to match original color, but recent observation says they are now trying and getting closer.   Buddy

On another note; A few years ago, when Josephyne was around 2 or 2 and a half she was playing with my 3/4 Remco's, standard and glow versions, she had brought them up from the basement and after she was done playing with them I collected them only to discover a missing Mummy!??!  I searched and searched thru the couch, around the couch and in and around the couch in the basement but to no avail?!?  The other day Samantha reached for a cheap Mummy sarcophagus (from the late 80's) that had a pop up glow in the dark Mummy in it, she had some problems lifting the lid so I cracked the seal for her; As she opened it she giggled because the Mummy had a kid Mummy in with it?!!  She held it up and sure enough it was my missing Remco Mummy!  I do not recall Jo playing with that sarcophagus on that particular day but I know she used to play with it all the time.......

Zombiehorror.......that's a cool story about the Mummy! Finding something that you just KNOW is there somewhere is a treat! I've got my entire basement still in reorganization ruins, and I just KNOW there is a special box of comics down here somewhere, but I just can't find it! Frustrating!  Buddy

I wonder if the Marx Nutty Mads and Weird-Ohs are also being counterfeited? And how about the figures from the Marx playsets such as the Alamo, Fort Apache and Ben Hur?

???
Collecting! It's what I do!

RICKH

I know the Alamo and Fort Apache  playsets were reproduced as late as the early to mid 90's.  I bought them at TRU back then.

Just got these bad boys in the mail today! 1991 Hamilton 10 inch Kirk nd Spock. I have Dr McCoy on the way too. They also did the rest of the bridge crew and some aliens in this size as well, but for now anyways I am happy with the Big 3.
Crazy am I? We'll see if I'm crazy or not!

My favorite horror host was Cincinnati's Cool Ghoul, Dick VonHoene. His daughter sent me these two promotional fliers today:

I was thrilled to get them. Memorabilia featuring him is getting harder and harder to find.

I gave this most line a miss. There was something about the stiff arms that really annoyed me, esp. when the figures are all lined up together - but I did get their 10" TOS Andorian (of course), the TNG Data (which incorporates his quizzical head tilt) and a to-scale TOS Talosian.
