Cartoony Universal monsters quite often have no appeal for me though. It's tough to explain but it really depends upon how it was done.

My all-time favourite renderings of the Universal monsters though are the more than slightly cartoony illustrations of Jack Davis!

I love Jack Davis' work. I have the Monster Rally album and You'll Die Laughing cards, as well as some EC comics with his art (original and reprint), and Creepy #1 of course. I also have a copy of his 6' Frankenstein poster on one of my doors.

Doubt if Jack did any of the animation. He would have just designed them.

To each his own.  I grew up with Jack Davis, from his Mad magazine work, to his designing the characters from "Mad Monster Party' (which also involved writers from Mad magazine), to later discovering his work on the EC horror comics.

I think Jack Davis is one of the best cartoonists/caricaturists of any genre, of all time. The Norman Rockwell of cartoonists.
