They did a series of cards about the English Civil War?  Did any of them include the Witch-finder General?

No, they were the same cards with the American Civil War art, but they were also released in England in a slightly smaller size.
"Do you know what I've got in those crates?"

Monsters For Sale

The Outer Limits did an episode called "O.B.I.T." where the government has possession of a machine that let them spy on anyone, anywhere, 24 hours a day.  It proves so addicting that the operators find they "can't not watch".

Then they discovers that it was the watchers who had been had.

I think of this episode every time I hear about new, more pervasive ways for government, and business to invade what was once considered personal privacy.

I was reminded yet again this morning when I read this on the Interwebnet:

http://money.msn.com/investing/post--mysterious-fake-cellphone-towers-found-across-us

From "O.B.I.T."

Lomax (revealed as an alien):

"The machines are everywhere! Oh you'll find them all, you're a zealous people. And you'll make a great show of smashing a few of them. But for every one you destroy, hundreds of others will be built. And they will demoralize you, break your spirits, create such rifts and tensions in your society that no one will be able to repair them! Oh, you're a savage, despairing planet, and when we come here to live, you friendless, demoralized flotsam will fall without even a single shot being fired. Senator, enjoy the few years left you. There is no answer. You're all of the same dark persuasion! You demand – insist – on knowing every private thought and hunger of everyone: Your families, your neighbors, everyone — but yourselves."

It was an episode that would have been equally at home on The Twilight Zone.

That episode should be rerun on prime time TV!

Will you ever look at these towers the same way again?

1) The Zanti Misfits
OK, another 'bump' for an old thread, yes, but I just wanted to warn folks about the Zanti's advancements in our consumer wifi products.  Currently, it's being marketed under the spelling of "Netgear AC3200 Router", but as you can see...

... it's still just a Zanti in sheep-plastic coating.  BEWARE!!

No to mention their creeping into children's games!

ALWAYS MONSTERING...

Mike, what name were those two plastic "bug creatures" sold under?  Did they actually pre-date Outer Limits TV?

When I was 5, I saw The Most Influential Film Of My Life - the 1965 FIRST MEN IN THE MOON with Lionel Jeffries as Professor Cavor.  The moon creatures - which he called "Selenites" - were upright versions of those plastic bugs from your photo, and I suspect 'your' plastic models were also clearly predating those Selenites.

I am critical of the Godzilla movies when they entered the '60s in a dumbed-down storyline that always included children as a primal story-force, but this wasn't new at all.  Having a child as a central character (or "force") in Entertainment was commonplace.

I should be more critical of the Godzilla-type films for dumbing themselves down into the TV Wrestling format.  That's when I began to easily turn off the telly.  "And in this corner, for the 2nd fall, we have Mil Mascares..." - who was frankly far more interesting than costumed monster-actors simply for his agility without a 200lb rubber suit!  Gee - I wish Toho had licensed those costumes to Ted Turner way back when...

Christine, the critters Mike posted are "Cooties" from a game that dates back to the late 40s (and which is still being produced today). The Cootie came disassembled, and you played by rolling dice with corresponding Cootie body parts. First one to assemble his Cootie wins.

COOTIES!  Yes, that's it.  I couldn't remember that name nor was I aware it was a game.  Now, along with Martian cake fantasies, I wonder if I'll be kicking at silly plastic critters?!!  Jeepers, I hope not.  Hubby always ends up on the floor in those nightmares. (He's a completely silly man, by the way - I always offer to leave him chained to dungeon walls but noooo, not him!  He never lets me have any fun.)

Scatter, EXACTLY!  I mean, it's not like I've ever REALLY killed him!  Sheesh... all those silly screams and hollers for police, every time he manages to get free and break out a window.  Good grief... you'd think he didn't realize who he was marrying!  HE MADE A CHOICE!!  Live with it.

Or else.

Silly man... I mean, most of his body parts still work... sometimes... occasionally... and it's not like he was going to live forever anyway.  He always forgets that!

He's a man......only one body part matters to him anyway.
