Mord

Bad Samaritan - GREAT, little thriller! Two down-on-their luck valet, team up to burglarize their customers as they dine (one is the lookout, the other is the thief). Everything goes smoothly, until they f*** with the wrong guy. Thrilling to the end.  Kinda like "Don't Breathe", but heads in a different direction. Even my girlfriend loved it.

Aren't they going to be the first ones the cops suspect?

That happens, but THEY are small potatoes compared to the monster they try to rob.

I'm just sayin', how dumb are these guys supposed to be? "They'll never suspect us!" "Hu-hu hu-hu hu-hu!"

Yeah, they were common, young thugs with more balls than brains. The David Tennent character they confront is pure, remorseless evil.

I was suckered into falling for a bogus Teaser for the coming 2019 remake of Pet Sematary.  No great accomplishment by the producers of the tease - It's never been that hard to make me look foolish.

But it just so happens I had already ordered a "like new" used Blu-Ray of the 1989 original for a cheapie upgrade, plus a 2017 "making of" independent documentary Blu-Ray for next to nothing.

Just got through watching both.

Pet Sematary, 1989 - A young girl who has not been prepared for the possibility of a pet's death loses her cat.   Daddy goes to extremes to remedy the situation.

When I first saw this movie in the theater in 1989, I was impressed by the overall sense of horror they managed to build into the film - but I also felt a little ripped off by what I had assumed would be a new Stephen King original story being just a ripoff of "The Monkey's Paw" that I had read when I was about 10 years old.

The King version has grown on me since then and I have come to terms with the idea that there really aren't very many basic plots to draw from.  No doubt about it, this movie is a classic in it's own right and deserves the label.

And it still plays very well for a three decade old film.

Unearthed & Untold:  The Path To Pet Sematary, 2017 - Really nice documentary that draws on interviews with what must be all of the cast except for the late Fred Gwynne.  The director, makeup people and other production people also participated.  Lots of behind the scenes pictures and video.  Local people are interviewed and location are visited.

This is a very thorough, well organized 97 min. tribute that any real  "Pet Sematary" fan should have.  This extra even has extras of its own:

SPECIAL FEATURES:

Audio Commentary with Creators John Campopiano and Justin White.
Podcast Commentary with Creators John Campopiano and Justin White.
           Edited / Alternate Scenes.
Video Interview with Creators John Campopiano and Justin White.
"PET TALES - From the Cutting Room Floor" Featurette.
           PET SEMATARY Location Photo Compilation.
           Documentary Poster Art Concepts.
Rare On-Set Video Footage from Rhonda Carter.
           Documentary Sizzle Reel.
           Promotional Trailer.
Reversible Art Design by Alexandros Pyromallis.

All that for a documentary about a film.

If 2019 does bring us a remake of "Pet Sematary" and that spurs a special 30-year anniversary celebration of the original, this documentary should be included in the special limited steelbook collectors' edition - or whatever the hell they do.

(Maybe they could do a limited re-release of the original to selected theaters a week or two before the remake premiers.)
