Lazarus

The Fly (original)

I loved it.  The moving mouth parts on the mask made it that much more convincing.

I would have watched the fulci Zombie also, but the Netflix disc arrived cracked, so....

I'm trying to watch all of the things I haven't seen that I probably ought to.  After Zombie gets a replacement copy here, I've got American Werewolf in London coming.  If anyone has a recommendation, I'll make sure to watch it if it's available.

Anyone else seen these two?

"The Man From Earth", 2007

A man is moving away from a lucrative professorship at a college and leaving no forwarding address and all of his furniture.  His friends gather for a farewell party and begin asking why.  After much prompting, he tells them it is because people are beginning to comment on how he seems to never age.  Then he tells them that he is over 14,000 years old.  And that is not his most startling claim!

The film takes place pretty much all in one room with a solid ensemble cast.  A talky little oddity that puts me in mind of a Lillian Hellman play.  Not everyone's cup of tea, But I was intrigued by it.

"These Final Hours", 2013

This is an Australian movie that is sort of like "On the Beach" but has nothing to do with radiation.  No, I guess it is really more like "Seeking a Friend For the End of the World".  The Aussie accents are pretty strong and much of the dialog is delivered a bit fast.  Even though this was in English, I watched it with the subtitles on.  It helped a lot with a couple of the actors.

Exorcism (1974) (Jess Franco)

One of Franco's weaker entries. Lots of female nudity (especially Lina Romay), bondage, and stage performer torture. Franco himself plays a creepy little defrocked priest who murders the naughty to save their soul. The Redemption BD offers this longer erotic version, and the shorter horror version called Demoniac. A recurring theme in some Franco flicks is having an inept cop named Inspector Tanner, and this film has him as a real dumbass. This movie will be of interest to Franco fans. To others it probably won't be very enjoyable, unless they just watch it for the nudity and poorly staged soft-core sex (just cut to the chase and watch porn if that's what you're after).
