Frankenstein 1970, I hadn't seen it in years and it was much better than I remembered it. I loved Baron Frankenstein's modern lab and the fact that the women were wearing 1958 style fashions in 1970.
You knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred.

"Five Million Years to Earth" (1967): Thank you TCM! Oh how I have wished I could get this on DVD. This British sci fi film (also titled "Quatermass and the Pit") is smart, edgy, and fun. While digging out a new tunnel for the London subway, a strange object is discovered. It turns out to be a 5 million year old spaceship. It's hard to summarize the rest, but it involves alien experiments on proto-humans and unleashed psychic phenomena. Well worth your time.

I don't think I've ever heard a negative review of this movie. Definitely one I'd like to check out.

"X The Unknown" (1956)
                          -Dean Jagger

Plot: IMDB

British Army radiation drills at a remote Scottish base attract a subterranean, radioactive entity of unknown nature that vanishes, leaving two severely radiation-burned soldiers... and a "bottomless" crack in the earth. Others who meet the thing in the night suffer likewise, and with increasing severity; it seems to be able to "absorb" radiation from any source, growing bigger and bigger. What is it?? How do you destroy a thing that "feeds" on energy?

Phantom's Review: Produced by Hammer Films in the late 50's. this is an entertaining little Sci-Fi thriller. Well acted and written (by Jimmy Sangster) The monster is a little reminiscent of  "The Blob" but that's okay it doesn't take away from the film. Nothing classic, just a solid well made movie.

Sounds interesting too.........see, THIS is why I love these little thumbnail reviews. Thanks guys!!

Creature Features

The Gorilla  1939  (Bela Lugosi and Lionel Atwill together again)

A Shriek In The Night  1933

Hey, what is it about apes? Seems like people in the 30's and 40's were completely terrified of them!  :)
"It's Alive...oh, It's Alive! It's Alive, It's Alive...IT'S ALIVE!!!"

The Murders in Rue Morgue

Bela is great in this movie but as was so often the case in the films he was in...he was the best thing about this movie.

Black Cat (1934)

Great, great film...atmospheric and Bela is both frightning and tragic at the same time, Karloff is the most terrifying that I've ever seen him in this film...good stuff.

It's not easy to find -not on Netflix yet, and unfortunately the dvd can be pretty expensive now. There's also one advertised on Amazon right now for about $17 that may be a screwed up bootleg. It misspells the name "Quatermass" in the title (the original British title is Quatermass and the Pit), and lists the stars from the BBC television production, as well as a run time of 3 hours. It's possible this is the BBC TV version and not the Hammer film.

I'm not deleting it off my DVR until I have a DVD!

MIGHTY JOE YOUNG. (1949)  I haven't seen this forever. Watched it with my five year old boy. He was mesmerized! He said it was perfect. I have to agree with him.

"Passengers" (2008)
                   -Anne Hathaway

Plot: IMDB

After a plane crash, a young therapist, Claire, is assigned by her mentor to counsel the flight's five survivors. When they share their recollections of the incident -- which some say include an explosion that the airline claims never happened -- Claire is intrigued by Eric, the most secretive of the passengers. Just as Claire's professional relationship with Eric -- despite her better judgment -- blossoms into a romance, the survivors begin to disappear mysteriously, one by one. Claire suspects that Eric may hold all the answers and becomes determined to uncover the truth, no matter the consequences.

Phantom's Review: Well acted, but slow moving mystery thriller with a slight supernatural twist. Nothing really original about it, in fact my wife and I figured out "the twist" about half way thru the movie. Not bad, just not all that interesting.

Over the long weekend, some while watching my daughter:

- Session 9 (I liked this one alot, psychological terror, abandoned asylums, murder and secrets)

- The Wolf Man 1941

- Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man

- Werewolf of London

- An American Werewolf in London (One of my favorites)

- Transformers: Dark of the Moon (My wife is a big fan, it was a cool one time watch. The new woman replacing Fox is FINE and she is a better actress)
"For one who has lived but a single lifetime, you are a wise man ...Van Helsing."
"I shall awaken memories of love and crime and death..."

Killer Klowns from Outer Space
Romero's Survival of the Dead
Daredevil
Listen to them. Children of the Night. What music they make!

frankenstein73

"Perhaps we had better start from the beginning" I watched a couple hammer films.
THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1957) PETER CUSHING & CHRISTOPHER LEE. One of my f avorites of hammer. The dialog in this movie is enthralling.
FRANKENSTEIN MUST BE DESTROYED (1970) PETER CUSHING. Not as good but still not bad. Hard to get past a monster named fred and who looks like don delouis.
Then I watched a couple INNER SANCTUM MYSTERIES WITH LON CHANEY JR.
CALLING DR. DEATH (1943)
WEIRD WOMAN (1944)
I Have never seen these before. Just got the dvd in the mail from amazon for $5. It has 6 full length feature films with LCjr on two dvds. I love them so far! Man these are just cool movies! I highly reccomend buying it if amazon has any left. Well time to put in JAWS And just let it loop all day! HAPPY FOURTH!
