Phantom Stranger

'Mystery Street' (1950)
-Ricardo Montalban, Marshall Thompsan, Elsa Lancaster

Plot: IMDB
Vivian, a B-girl working at "The Grass Skirt," is being brushed off by her rich, married boyfriend. To confront him, she hijacks drunken customer Henry Shanway and his car from Boston to Cape Cod, where she strands Henry...and is never seen again. Months later, a skeleton is found (sans clothes or clues) on a lonely Cape Cod beach. Using the macabre expertise of Harvard forensic specialist Dr. McAdoo, Lt. Pete Morales must work back from bones to the victim's identity, history, and killer. Will he succeed in time to save an innocent suspect?

Phantom's Review: Solid , well made "Noir" murder mystery. One of the first films to use Forensic science as a tool to solve the crime. (Fans of CSI might enjoy it) Montalban is terrific as the young detective assigned to solve a murder. Elsa Lancaster is also great as a scheming landlady out to blackmail the murderer. If you enjoy classic murder mystery's, you should enjoy this film.

Underrated IMO.
Very true. This was the first mainstream werewolf film and the model for future attempts.

They even stuffed a half-hearted homage to it in the remake of "The Wolfman," having Sir John bitten by a feral boy while hunting in Tibet.

Werewolf: The Beast Among Us (2012)
*Anyone see this yet? I actually enjoyed it. No elaborate backstory, just gets right into it---guys w/weapons hunting a werewolf. Just an old school monster movie. I'm not crazy about the CGI werewolf, but otherwise an entertaining film imo.

Dracula Untold (2014)

I didn't care for either one if these films. It just seems like Universal has no idea how to make monster movies anymore. And the CGI in "Werewolf" was horrible! They had a perfectly good werewolf suit, too, but replaced it with that rubbery-looking videogame nonsense.

As for "Dracula Untold," it was just a mess. Disjointed story, random divergence from Vlad's true history, no sense of menace or dread, more CGI hokum. Seriously, this was almost as bad as Dario Argento's version.

"Storm of the Century"

I like to watch this Stephen King mini-series when I want to see something with a lot of atmospheric snow scenes.
