What do I like to see in a good horror host.....

Do you have a sexy sidekick? Cool lighting (Green or red lights always look cool). A coffin (every horror host needs a coffin somewhere on set....even if they're not a vampire). Make sure you have good audio....I see a lot of stuff that looks good and sound terrible. Adding some sound effects (crazy mad scientist laughing, screams, howling, wind blowing, etc).

I was lucky enough to be a little kid in the late 70's/early 80's, and Sir Grave Ghastly was the King of cool Horror Hosts. He had a "Viewer Art Gallery/monster gallery" where he would show all these bad drawings that little kids did (and as you get older, you appreciate just how awesome and hilarious some of those bad drawing actually are). Sir Graves also had this segment with "The Blob"....He drew a couple of weird looking eyes above his lip, and the camera zoomed in with an oval (blocking out everything but the eyes and mouth), and he would sing funny songs....I always looked forward to seeing The Blob.

Have a great time with it, but try to keep a little bit creepy for the kids here and there (I loved being scared just enough when I was little....It made me want to watch more). Post some stuff on YouTube when you get it done....Good luck!

No coffins (at least all the time, there may be a gag or two featuring one along the way though). We've got lots of ideas in store, though there won't be a lot of scares in the host segments. Sorry, but we're playing for laughs lol

Well, after much discussion, lobbying, etc, the decision has been made to push the debut of the show back until January 19th. Yes, I know that is a long ways off, and there must be a lot of changes made, but trust me when I say, its for the best. We will have more time to generate funds, get our sets together, and produce a much better project. On the plus side, because of the extra time (we will be filming in a few weeks, but the shows won't debut until next semester), not only will there be MORE episodes than orginally planned, but they will debut once a week (save for a two week hiatus due to Spring Break).

And to haunted hearse, due to this delay, your ad (which has been completed) will run for the entire school year, even without the show airing, due to this delay. Sorry about that friend! We are still accepting ads for this semester (and next if you wish to pay for both) if anyone is interested. It will go a long way, I can assure you of that.

It is. Anton Lavey of all people purchased the rights many years ago and released it into the public domain.

LOL that is awesome! I never knew it was PD or that Anton LaVey bought the rights! There are so many great PD movies that you'll have material for your show for years! Are you going to post your show on youtube as well as air it on the college channel?

"Freaks" had such a tragic history. Based on the 1923 short story "Spurs," Tod Browning, a former carnival performer, tried to get it made as early as 1927 (with Lon Chaney, of course, although it's unclear what role he would've played). When it was finally greenlighted at MGM, Louis B. Mayer told Browning he wanted a film "more horrifying than 'Dracula!'" The film ended Browning's career and lost over $160K at the box-office.

FREAKS is such a fabulous film. I first saw it at an art house theater in the early 80s (I wasn't even sure it still existed at the time), a double bill with the old MANIAC, where they gouge a cat's eye and have (as I remember) a couple of gals in the basement fighting with hypodermic needles. What a show that was.

Dwain Esper leased "Freaks" from MGM for 25 years, for $5000 upfront plus royalties. He recut it, and ran it under various titles. He only re-released it as "Freaks" in 1947. When the film reverted back to MGM in 1962, Esper only returned the 64-minute studio cut, even though he'd been given all the elements to the original, 90-minute cut. All of that footage is now considered lost. MGM started renting it to colleges and art houses after a successful 1962 screening at the Cannes Film Festival. When LaVey bought the rights is sketchy. I can never find an exact date, just "the early 1980s." At least two sources claim it's still copyrighted by MGM/Warner Bros. LaVey may have discovered MGM's copyright had expired (just as Universal had allowed the copyrights to expire on "Hunchback" and "Phantom"), and copyrighted it himself, then allowed it to become PD.

Freaks is without a doubt one of the most intriguing films in history. Not only in how the film came to be, but everything that came afterwards.

Yes, the series will be online, as well as televised. I'm hoping to start re-working the currently written scripts and start on the added episodes tonight (but we'll see how that goes).

The best advice I can give you on content is this: Watch other Horror Hosts' shows!!! A lot of the older stuff is available to view on YouTube. Zacharly is a must, there are a few bits of Vampira.
Other hosts can be found online. Both The Vortex and Monster Channel do a great job showcasing these shows. Mine is showing on Vimeo and soon The Monster Channel.
On DR. MORTOSE COMMANDS we use both sets and green screen. A small set isn't to hard to create. Be careful with the green screen though, if you don't have someone who is good at the whole chromokey thing and getting it too look right, don't bother with it.
Good luck! I will be checking on your progress......BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!
