Ok, to make a short story longer...here we go..

My friend recently bought a record player and has been going nuts buying vinyl. So he calls me this morning and knowing I have some KISS albums on vinyl asked me to throw em in my car and after our Sat morning gym meet ups--just head to his house and give em a listin. (I have vinyl and nothing to listin to em on.)

I just noticed this little store connected to a barber shop the other day called Dinosaur Records. Initially I thought it was a studio or something but after a closer look it turns out to be a small record store that is primarily vinyl. Neither one of us have been inside yet, so after the gym we headed over there.

So he's a drummer in a pop-punk band and I'm a vocalist in a death metal/hard core band. We're always scoping venues for each other and looking for indie music stores--so we get there and as soon as I open the door. Boom....it's Jim Catania! I knew it was him right away. He said "Hey guys" and I just said "You're Mr. Jim..I'm a huge Misfits fan and love Static Age to death!" I leaned over and shook his hand and said thanks and smiled.

So after being there for about an hr talking about business and the resurgence of vinyl among collectors etc etc......I finally had to ask him "What do you think about the new Misfits stuff?" He is really easy going and just said..."Ehhh...honestly guy, I didn't listin to Devil's Rain."  Before I could say anything else he went on to say "Alot of guys come in here and think I'm gonna be all over punk but really I mostly listin to blues and alot of surf rock."

So as time goes on he tells me when he was a kid and hung out with Glenn they listined to mostly blues and Static Age just..."happened." He then went on to say--(and I remember this one word for word) "I think it's really very cool that Glenn does the Legacy thing with Doyle, that's great."

We talked about metal, (and how he can't get passed certain vocal styles--which was a trip being that I'm a "growler") the indie scene overall and finally...coolest part......he gave me a blank disc and said "give it a listin, come back and tell me what you think".  It's his new Surf Rock band that hasnt been pressed or packaged yet and literally just got done being recorded. I have a copy of it! Pretty cool stuff!

Anyway it was just awesome to see an original member of a band that has influenced and inspired me--getting to talk music with him for awhile and getting some of his new music!

Just thought I'd share!

That's really cool, Jess - glad you got to have that experience.

BL- This sounds like one of those days that you'll remember when your're 95 years old and sitting around with your grandkids!!  :)  Wow!! And you're such a cool customer- I would have started shrieking and acting spazzy! Thank goodness your buddy bought a record player! I used to shop in little record stores every time we visited any city. But I never met any music idol just randomly- how awesome!

Haha, well actually my plan is to buy the 1st Misfits album on vinyl--which he was on. Have him sign it and take a pic. Might help him out with some publicity and it would be cool for me.

I probably should by a record player 1st  ;D
