The Phantom Creep

Are there plans to bring over the different galleries of monster items done by category (Creature, Frankenstein, 60's, 70's etc.) from the old site? I for one found these to be of great help when doing research or just wasting time. I would love to see something similar started here and would gladly contribute.

We've talked about it, but it's a lot of work, lol.  I think that's going to happen at some point.  I know that the galleries there will remain as long as Yahoo lets us keep them there, but that doesn't preclude bringing them over here and getting them up and going.

I think using Flickr is another option, as that seems to be the photo host of choice for this groupl

Yes, definitely! This is going to happen sooner than I even thought. Construction of the new gallery here might even begin this weekend. Then the  importing of all the Yahoo pics will begin. We'll get it done. Those pics are much too valuable a resource to have lying over there collecting dust!

I'm very thankful to hear that the pictorial gallery is moving with us.  It is the most organized source of information on vintage monster toys that I know of.

Roback

Yep, me too. I can't begin to tell you how often I check on those galleries as reference. The set up in my opinion is perfect. Not only is it set up by decades but also by character. Like Zombo said, it's a valuable tool and extremely user friendly. No doubt a lot of work to bring over. Go get em' Terry!

So happy to hear the pics are coming.

It'll make this one of the top sites out there!

My only suggestion would be to make the galleries for Members Only (Like the yahoo folders) and watermark the pics.
Morning, noon, or night, Anytime . . . . the count may strike. If you're caught you have to linger, Cause Dracula may bite your finger!

Glad to hear it, I've been known to look at that daily. ;D

Watermarking all those pics would be prohibitively time consuming.  But I agree that the gallery should be "members only."  UMA membership must have its privileges!

The pictures will definitely be a plus for the new diggs.  I love to look at all the monster goodness!

The forthcoming gallery will indeed be for members only. I hope to announce it's arrival sometime this week. Maybe even tomorrow!

So I see that the photo Gallery has started to fill in.
Is there any way to click on the photos to enlarge them?
Also I notice that underneath the photos there is a section for comments but it doesn't seem to work yet? Is this going to possible in the future?

Hello Zombo, and thanks for the questions. The pics featured in the gallery will show at their largest resolution. The size limitations placed on these photos is currently set at 800 x 800 pixels.

The comments option is currently disabled. We were after a clean-looking gallery without showing all the different stat options. Rating a pic, commenting on a pic, most viewed, are options that are all available, but the mods here agreed that a more clean interface was more of a priority than member ratings of a certain pic. These decisions, like all decisions here, are never set in stone, so if you'd like to see comments enabled, then please say so. Maybe an explanation as to why you think this would be good would help some too. We're all ears! Thanks Zombo!

It probably is best not to fill up the galleries with tons of comments I agree. I guess I was thinking more along the lines of giving info on an item to help with identifying it or just having a nice informative general description of each item when possible. I also think it would be neat to give credit when possible as to whose collections the items are in, although some collectors out there probably wouldn't want to share such info. I guess any of this could just be sent to the powers that be and then they could add it if they see fit.

I see your point Shannon, and it is a point well taken. Each photo's description area is wide open to providing as much detail as wanted. I agree that many of the pics deserve more details and background information than is currently there. When all of the pics are finally imported, I will then make an effort to go back and tweak the pics with better pics along with providing more additional info (when available). Meanwhile .. if anyone wants to contribute either pics or info, please feel free to do so by sending any of the administrators a pm (private message). Thanks!
