I'd rather watch "Plan 9" than "Dork Shadows".

I'd rather watch "Plan 9" than "Citizen Kane".

How can naybody claim Plan Nine is the worst film ever made, when you have the cinematic catalog of Gordon Herscell Lewis, and Robot Monster?  There is nothing in the entire Plan Nine film that comes close to a gorilla in a deep sea diving helmet ready to destroy all mankind with his bubbles of death!  And what about "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, where the lovable holiday icon is kidnapped by ET's armed with deadly Whammo Air Blasters?  Calling Plan Nine, with a message that mans continued violence, is putting us all at risk, does a tremendous disservice to those films that truly deserve the title of Worst.

And all this time, I thought that Jaws 2 was the worst movie .. Sigh.

You've never watched "Jaws: The Revenge," have you?

I first saw Plan 9 back in '64 or so on Big Movie Shocker (the Atlanta portal for the "Shock!" syndication, etc.). Even at that age I was like "WTF?!". Had a great time watching it though (with my older brother). Still a fave. I think the Worst Movie thing goes back Medved's Golden Turkey Awards book. They just chose it 'cause it was convenient. The Creeping Terror makes Plan 9 look like a David Lean film! And then of course there's Beast of Yucca Flats and E. T. The Extraterrestrial.

Yes, Plan 9 is a lot of fun.  It is pretty silly, but many people feel it's not bad enough to earn the rep the Medveds gave it.  Actually, the "Worst Movie" honor has done much to make the film well-known.  You can get it all over the place, and there's lots of fans to discuss the film with!
Beautiful moving, shifting colors!

In the 50 worst films of all time, the Medveds asked people to vote for what was the worst film of all and two films got the most votes.  "Plan Nine" and "Exorcist 2".  I suspect a lot of those votes for worst film were by people who are entertained by the films awfulness.  The Medveds were disappointed that their choice, "Robot Monster', didn't get nearly that many votes.  By the way, the lifetime achievement award for worst actor of all times went to Exorcist 2 star, Richard Burton.  The Medveds explained he was like the girl with the curl; when he was good, he was excellent.  When he was bad, he was the pits.

I think Night of the Ghouls is much worse than Plan 9. Plan 9 and Bride of the Monster are probably his best movies. In my opinion at least. I only have his box set so I haven't seen what he did in later years.

It's hardly the worst film of all time. There are movies that are entertaingly bad and ones that are unwatchably bad. Plan 9 in entertainingly bad and one of my top 10 fvaorite movies of all time.

I'm see I'm going to have to say with the rest this is not the one of the worst movie made.  It seems as thought I'm the only one on this site who doesn't like the film.    :D

A lot of people wanted "Plan Nine" included in Medved's follow up, and it's inclusion in the follow up book, represented the desires of a large number of their readers.  For me, a large part of the films entertainment comes from how inept Ed Wood was at making his sci-fi effort. As far as their original book, "50 Worst Films of All Time", Plan Nine didn't make the list.  Others that were included in the "50 Worst Films" book, such as "Alakazam the Great", an early pioneer animated film from Japan, truly didn't belong on a list of worst films.  On the other hand others, such as "Santa Claus Conquerers the Martians", the musical "Lost Horizon" "Bring me the Head of Alfredo Garcia", "The Assassination of Trotsky", probably did.

I love Santa Claus Conquers the Martians! Godzilla vs the Smog Monster also did not belong in their stupid book either. It's not bad, it's just..weird! It also showed the typical American view of that time that unless it was stop motion, effects were "awfuL' no matter that the man-in-suit and miniatures that Toho used cost more than stop motion(and also CGI-in 2007 Toho opted to use a CGI Godzilla for a cameo appearance ata the opening of the film Always Sunset on 32nd Street 2 because it was cheaper than filming a new live action scene!).

In fairness to the Medveds, it looked like they were attempting to pick a lot of films from different genres and eras, and even if you didn't think some of their choices were that bad, you learned something about those movies.  Some I would not have been aware of if I hadn't found them in their book, and in the Golden Turkey Awards, I learned about not just "Plan Nine" (which I enjoy maybe because of all it's flaws), but also the cinema of Gordon Herscell Lewis who is best known for his work in splatter cinema.  None of his splatter films, can hold a candle to how awful the films he made for children were.  Everybody has their own idea of what a good film, or a bad film is.  On another thread, regarding Tim Burton's Dark Shadows, you have both people who love and despise that film.

I actually really enjoy Plan 9 and find it thoroughly entertaining. I watched it for the first time with a friend of mine in high school and I instantly fell in love with Ed Wood and had to see the rest of his movies. I like them all. Kelton the cop is my favorite character. I think it is unfairly declared "the worst movie of all time." I have seen much worse. One that comes to mind is Zombie Nation (2004). It was frustratingly terrible. >:( I highly recommend that you do not see this movie, for the sake of your own sanity and well being.
