Well, audio is the movies of the mind, of course.  Big Finish Audio in the UK has been producing Dark Shadows audio dramas for some time now, utilizing original cast members whenever possible.  Their latest DS drama, "Dark Shadows: The Night Whispers," features Jonathan Frid, John Karlen and a cameo from Barbara Steele.  I think it is exceptionally well done, and it is the first time in forty years that Frid has returned to doing the Barnabas character.  Frid is 87, and his voice has changed, understandably, yet his performance is dynamic and the cast delivers a fairly intense new story that fits well into the DS mythos.  IMO, it is very serious and very well done.

You can purchase an MP3 download, or a physical CD.  And as a bonus, if you purchase a CD you also get access to downloading the compressed version whenever you like, which is convenient.

Yes, I've been reading the reviews for these in VideoScope for quite some time now. Regrettably, I never get assigned to review them!

I believe Big Finish also produces the "Doctor Who" audio dramas.

Yes, I bought one of the Tom Baker Doctor Who CDs they are making ("The Renaissance Man"), featuring Louise Jameson as Leela, and I thought it was pretty darn good.  It reminded me of watching the two of them on the TV show in the 70's, and they even included the "cliffhanger" gimmick.  Creates the impression of a "new episode" I never got a chance to see...and as they say in their ads, "It's tea time in 1977 all over again!" It is a trip back.

I stumbled upon Big Finish while looking for Dark Shadows stuff.  It was a real surprise to see that they had been producing all this new "Dark Shadows" material, relating back to the classic original show.  When I got my CD in the mail (it took about two weeks to arrive in Los Angeles, from the UK) I was happy to find that they did a good job on "The Night Whispers."  The writing is good--layered, and subtle.  Barbara Steele is always great.  And fans of John Karlen will appreciate that they gave his "Willie" character quite a bit to do.
