Sequels that you favor over the originals?

Does anyone else share this particular quirk? When it comes to some classic horror series, I find myself having a favorite that is not the original outing of the monster in question. For example, in the Universal Frankenstein series, I can take or leave the original FRANKENSTEIN, favoring GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN as my favorite instead. Other examples for me would be SON OF DRACULA, FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN, THE MUMMY'S TOMB, THE INVISIBLE MAN RETURNS, REVENGE OF THE CREATURE, EVIL OF FRANKENSTEIN, DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE and GODZILLA RAIDS AGAIN..instead of the first films in these series.

I would love to hear if anyone else feels this way on horror/sci-fi film series.

There's a few I can name but they are not horror.  Like Superman 2, Wrath of Kahn, etc.  I've been thinking and I haven't come up with any off the top of my head though this thread might jog a brain cell or two loose and I'll think of one.  As to the classics, I loved the original Frankenstein but was not as enamored of Bride though I do like it a lot -- just not as much as the first.  To me, Dracula never had a true sequel since Bela did not star in Brides.  The wolfman movies didn't seem like a sequel, just more like the 40s version of DCs Brave and Bold team up issues.

I will have to say: Godfather II, The Bride of Frankensein, Death Wish II. So many others.
Where do I begin?!  :D

For the most part, I favor the originals. "Frankenstein" is straightforward gothic horror, while "Bride..." plays more like a twisted fairy tale. It is technically a better film, yes. But, because "Frankenstein" was pure horror, and paved the way for the black humor and subversiveness of "Bride...," I like it just a tad more.

Of all the main 5 Universal monsters--Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, and the Creature--I'd have to say I prefer all the original outings. (Of course, there were no sequels to "Phantom" or "Hunchback" for comparison.)

I would also say that there is no real particular Universal Monster sequel that I favor over the original(s), although some are just as great; ie. Bride of Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein, Revenge of the Creature!

Now I do favor/prefer Friday the 13th Part II over Friday the 13th; It stayed very true to the original's feeling/atmosphere but Jason made for a much more exciting killer than his momma did!

Conquest of the Planet of the Apes: By this time, the ape make up & the general concept was no longer a novelty. The film goes straight to the story, there's more action, & visually it's more appealing in it's simplicity. I'm also captivated by the film's social commentary, & Roddy McDowell gives his finest performance IMO as the ape Caesar.

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country: Everything I enjoy about ST rolled into one film/story, & each original cast member has something to do.

The Bride of Frankenstein: just a classic, damned clever movie.

Frankenstein & the Monster from Hell: Cushing just gets better in each turn as the Baron, & the film's an enjoyable oddity in the Hammer catalog.

I could perhaps add Destroy All Monsters & Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein, but I feel these are stand alone movies.
