Hi everyone, I am new to this site and this is my first post. I collect horror things from time to time and I ran upon this frankenstein bike buddy made by Tico Toys in 1965. It is still in the original box and what appears to be the original wrap also. I picked it up from a goodwill , (believe it or not), for 1.99. I have tried to find out in the library and also at barnes and noble for prices on what this is worth. I was wondering if any of you could tell me what something like this is worth. I have not seen anything like it on ebay. Sorry for the lower quality pics, they were taken from a droid phone because my digital camera broke. Also the wrap is shiny with the flash so it kinda makes the box look worse than it actually is.

I am not sure of actual value but I can say I honestly hate you a little right now. I want that thing so unbelievably bad. Amazing find! Especially for 1.99

I will buy that from you for a 1.99!!!!

It all depends on if its an original, i know they made resin castings and sealed them in repo boxes. But if it actually IS an original, MIB. i'm just guessing, i could be way lower on the actual price but maybe around $1,500.- $2,000?  I know someone here will be able to give you an actual value.

That is a reproduction. It is made of resin and painted and in a repro box. The easiest way to tell is to look at the paint line on the hair. It is straight and done with a brush as opposed to masked-off and done with a spray.

It is nonetheless a nice find for $1.99. These go for around $70-100 most days. They used to be worth more, but some people are disenchanted by repros. Repros can help fill a hole in a collection, but they do not maintain their value over time. These retailed for $250 when they were made (1999), so you see what I mean. Ten years later and they have lost 2/3 of their value.

I want to go to your goodwill store. :)

Don't the repro boxes usually have two dates on them though? Like a 1965 and a 1999? Thanks for all though info on here guys, I really appreciate it !!!

It's not an official repro, it's a fan-made repro, so there aren't new dates on the box.  It was only a matter of time before that started causing confusion...  glad you paid $1.99 instead of $600 or something.  It's still a cool find.

I don't know how many of these have been made, but I'd guess there are at least several dozen out there.

Wow whoever did the repro on the box and monster itself did a hell of a job then!! I wonder if anyone else has reproduced them. I finally found a old ebay that had one sold but it had a black base below the head instead of green. I wonder if that is another thing that sets the real from the repro's? Anyway thanks for all the info guys it has definitely helped me out !!

The easiest way to tell in person is to pick it up. The original heads are blow mold plastic and light as feather. The bootleg (which in this case I prefer to "reproduction") is resin and as heavy as lead.

Definitely gotta be resin now that I think about it. It's not heavy but there was a small paint chip near the base and it appears to be resin from what I can see. I definitely learned alot of info about old toys today that I had no clue. Thanks all !!! Just trying to make sure I didnt have something really rare  laying around.  I am new to this. 8)

I am glad you posted this, I knew this was a rare toy, but didnt know there were repros. You just opened my eyes to that fact and I for one appreciate it. You might have saved me someone else alot of money!
Mirabile dictu,don't you agree?

That is cool, and a weird find from Goodwill! I bought one of these repro's many years ago on ebay from a guy named Samjo ( I think...). Actually, I bought a bunch of his repro's in a lot he was auctioning called "1964 Monster Christmas". The lot included the Bike Buddy, three monster notebook binders, a set of Aurora monster paint, a Horrorscope, an Uncle Fester light bulb and an Aurora Big Frankie box. Nice reproductions and a very colorful package!

Was the Horrorscope reproduction actually one of blow molded plastic or was it resin?

How could the Aurora monster paints be reproduced? I can see the packaging being reproduced, but how could the little cans of Humbol paints be duplicated? Did the paints in these sets have labels unique to the set?

???

It had to be resin. The original mutoscope was styrene, not blowmold.

Samjo's Horrorscope reproduction was cast in yellow resin.
