I was in Big Lots today and they had five foot glow in the dark skelatons for $16.  I saw the $40 ones in Target and the main difference I could see is the ones in Target are put together and the Big Lots are in a bag and you have to assemble the skelaton.   The two looked about the same to me.

Seriously?!?!  16 dollar skeletons that look like the glow ones that Target sells for 40 bucks and all that is required is to put it together!?!  Well I had my suspicions and they were unfortunately confirmed; The skeletons at Big Lots are Bluckys, unless the Big Lots you went to has a completely different 16 dollar skeleton!  These have been around for decades and became known as Bluckys because they were a cheap version of a Bucky (Which is an actual anatomically correct plastic skeleton usually costing around $120 and up!).  The BIG differences between Bluckys and any other decent skeleton is that Bluckys are very thin plastic, their porportions are way off, and they measure their "5ft" by including the length of the toes when pointed down and the little bit of extra space left by the connectors (I wanna say they're really around 4ft 2in?!?!) and in my opinion their skulls look like an aliens.

Here is a Blucky~

And here are the Target ($40) glow skeleton, measuring in at 5ft 2in; Along with a Garden Ridge ($50) skeleton, measuring 4ft 7in~

I don't actually own a Blucky so I can't do a side by side shot of one.

Here's a pic I found on the web of a skull comparison of a Blucky and an anatomical resin model~

And here is another pic I found of a project (http://www.theghostess.com/bluckyPVC1.htm) that involves cutting open the ends of a Blucky and inserting PVC pipe so it can stand...not quite the 5ft as advertised!!

Both of these skeletons while being hollow like Bluckys are extremely hard plastic and their propotions/bone structure are fairly accurate!  I really wish I could find one of these other skeletons for 16 bucks but the cheapest ones are at Walgreens for $30, which seem to be very similar to the Garden Ridge skeletons.  I would have bought two of those for the one I bought at Garden Ridge earlier in the season but I didn't know about them at the time.

I know a lot of home huanters use Bluckys because they are cheap but I've never cared for them personally.

I always felt that Bluckys are good skeletons for outdoor graveyards or for the kids to hang up and customize. I had a few from Spirit and they lasted a few years in the outside weather , except for the arms and legs falling off when it was windy or rainy. And I replaced them this year for $19 each. I have bought the Bluckys from Big Lots in the past, but I just got these from Spirit because I was ordering some other stuff with a coupon. The nice jointed ones are reserved for indoors and Halloween night only. I only have a couple of them. I recently found a microphone stand that has been in a closet for 11 years (abandoned by my son), and I cut a few holes in a Blucky and he is standing sturdy with the help of the stand. I covered the stand bottom with creepy cloth and gave him a pirate hat and sword and I'm displaying him indoors next to my Jack Sparrow statue. He's pretty cool, and the kids can play with him without breaking.

Bruzilla

We got our Creature From The Black Lagoon and Jeepers Creepers Creeper up on Sunday, and now we have to take them down tonight because we just got word a tropical storm might be hitting us tommorrow or Wednesday morning. This sucks!

charp13

Nooooooo!!!  Bruzilla- I feel so bad for you!  The storm is coming up to my neck of the woods on Tues. night,  and we just put out a ton of decorations, but the good props are still in the house. Although none of my "good" props are as amazingly good as your Jeepers Creepers!!  :)  After the storm, we are supposed to get "frost"....which I despise.
It was 84 fantastic degrees here in NW Ga. yesterday and I was in heaven! Is it too much to ask for to have a calm Halloween? We always fear the dreaded "prop-buster storm" around here. Take care of your awesome monsters  :)

Tombstones have been up for a few weeks now, put up the lighted path for the ToT'ers and 1 ghoul in one of the upstairs windows as well as boards on those windows and I switched out the porch light with my gargoyle sconce.  I usually put the board up in the front window by now but the wife said it cuts off to much air when the windows are open so I won't do those this year until Halloween weekend.  Spent the past few days redoing my fence columns, had to cut off about an inch from top and bottom as well as cut the side panels to match!

Here's a pic from the other night~

And two from a previous day where I was doing a coffin fogger test~

ZH- Your home looks beautifully haunted!  That coffin fogger is something to be proud of!  :)  I like the looooooong walk the ToTers have to take before they get to the doorbell, The kids are probably wondering what's at the end of the sidewalk.

ZombieHorror,

It looks like you live in Haddonfield!

On a lighter note... I finally finished my High Five Ghost   :)   I used a block of white styro, a piece of pvc and a white glove.   I feel like I have no more decorations in me.....
Our house is decorated a little lighter this year.  We didn't put anything on our fence or near the road. We ran out of time and energy. But all in all, I'm happy with the stuff we have out.  And in one week....the out of town guests start arriving for the party on the 29th...whew!
Is anyone else worn out already??

Your yard looks fabulous! Have you picked out the neighbours you're going to inter in your burial plot?

Dr. Madd

Just got through carving our pumpkin. I'll get pics of my halloween display in a bit. Also pics of my wife, myself and our daughter going to our company halloween party. We were the only "grown-ups" in costume.. Dissappointing.
