What is your guys favorite soundtrack to a film? My favorite is probably to the 1986 film River's Edge (which btw is an awesome movie) That soundtrack has some great metal bands on it like Slayer, Hallow's Eve, and Fates Warning. Metal-blade records was an independent company at the time and produced tons of great metal records unlike now and provided the music for the film. Metal-blade was four years old at the time.

some of the dirtiest, sleaziest, wrong side of the tracks jazz ever recorded!  :D

A few recent ones are "Sunshine" (2007 - John Murphy) &
"Blood Diamond" (2006 - James Newton Howard)

& (not really a film, but...) Ramin Djawadi's music to "Game Of Thrones"

What is his name...he sure looks familiar...          ;D

As for my favorite(s), I'll have to think on that and get back to you later.

Here are mine, though this was VERY difficult to stop at 5:

1. King Kong: Max Steiner
2. Psycho: Bernard Herrmann
3. The Ten Commandments: (A very young) Elmer Bernstein
4. Alien: Jerry Goldsmith
5. From Russia With Love: John Barry

Now that my list is complete, I am going to go "Doby the House Elf" on myself, for leaving the likes of Franz Waxman's Bride of Frankenstein, John Williams's Minority Report, and Shore's LOTR's works off my list.

Just thought of another one.
The Lost Boys.      It was a killer soundtrack when it came out. And it still holds up really well today. The doors-people are strange is one of the most memorable opening song of the 80s movies. In fact Its been awhile, I think im gonna watch it now that I mention it.

Waxman's BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN
Herrmann's GHOST AND MRS. MUIR

both are good soundtracks
I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

The Beavis and Butthead Experience is good. I wouldn't really consider it a soundtrack per say, but it is excellent. It has tracks from guys like White Zombie, Anthrax, Nirvana, Aerosmith, etc
