Here's a scan of a back cover ad from DC comics that were on sale in the early fall of 1965:

One day I'll find a Willie Mays kit! (and be able to afford it!)

Quote from: dlhenderson on August 25, 2013, 02:43:26 PMOK, Hepcat egged me on, so I'm posting this on one more thread.

I just found this a few days ago when going through my dear departed Mom's cache of old photographs...that's me being a Happy Monster Kid in 1964.  :)

I don't know what's scarier, the kid or the dog.

LOL, I'd say the "box".
On a side note, I was 1 years-old when this pic was taken.

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have the backdrop for the Aurora Babe Ruth kit they could scan for me?  I have the kit built, but don't have the backdrop to complete the scene.  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks.

A friend of mine was doing some work for an older lady down in her basement a few years back.  There, displayed on a shelf, were a bunch of the old Aurora kits (boxing, baseball, JFK, etc.)  He was totally blown away to see all these builds just sitting there gathering dust.  Asking her about them, he found out they had belonged to her son or husband (who may have passed away...I forget).  At any rate, she offered to let him have them on the condition he wasn't just going to turn around and sell them on eBay.  (Which wasn't what was going through his mind at all at the sight of all that plastic treasure.)  Talk about being in the right place at the right time!!!

I like the old lady's thinking though! Give them away though only to someone who doesn't have dollar signs in his eyes but will treasure them for their own sake.

But you need to move an opening bracket for your second picture to come up. Here it is:
