Nice work Rainer and Mike.

Mike, I went through kind of the same thing when my dad died. I finished the assignment I was working on, but then didn't paint another piece for over six months. I think maybe it was because I was still trying to please him through my art, and once he died my subconscious said, "What's the point?". I finally realized pleasing myself was the point. How's that for self-psychoanalysis?!?  :P

Chris, I appreciate your comments. Not sure it's the same in my case, but I appreciate you sharing that with me.

Good afternoon everyone!  In honor of the Universal Monster Army approaching it's 10th anniversary in November, I am inviting all artists (budding and professional) to come up with a design for a new UMA t-shirt!  Get those creative juices flowing and then head over to the Members Only thread for the official location to submit your artwork.  Details over at that thread.  Thank you all for your wonderful artistic contributions and I know you can come up with something frightening and fun for this contest.

Mike! Great to see you back into the swing of things, though I fully understand why.  I love the big loose brushstrokes while still creating a great Karloff likeness!
Great stuff!  :)

Thanks, Markchro, much appreciated!

I've been wanting to do a Frankenstein's monster illustration and did this one yesterday. It's my version of him--11 x 17 on Bristol board. I always want to get right to the inking part and don't have much patience to sit and do real tight pencils. I'm SO used to finishing what someone else starts and I didn't want to just light-table a photo. So, the iconic photo of Karloff was my starting point and my Frankie ended up almost like a combo of Karloff and a 'serious' Herman Munster.

That's great, Doug! I really like the various textures in the piece.

Hey, that's not the classic Monster, but nothing wrong with putting your own spin on it! I really like it!

Love the Frank!

And that's an order!

Thank you...I messed with him a little more (I'm fairly obsessive) and I'm happier with him now. Some things are just harder to notice till you see them reduced. Made his brow more pronounced and fixed his eyes some.

here's a colored piece i did real quick of a sketch i did a while back. It could use some more attention. Maybe someday?

It's all about the Horror.

thanks Charp the line art was done in brush and colors in photoshop. It is a more primitive drawing for me.

Great job on Frank, horror1o1 - the purple & green rocks!

I've always dug the old time carnival sideshow banners - they bring back so many memories (in fact, I'm thinking about starting a thread on it!).

Would'ave loved to seen this one back in the 70's!
