Here's a new painting I'm currently struggling with:



Dr. Zaius is as complete as I care to make him but the background field needs some resolution. I'm thinking about breaking up that space with some colored pencil and/or marker cross hatching . . . just to give it some richness. It's a little larger than I normally work but I got several of these (10x30) canvases on sale. I plan on doing a gorilla portrait using the same composition and a purple background

Thoughts?

I like it the way it is. If you want to put something in the open space just be sure it doesn't draw your eye too much away from Zaius. Nice job!

I may just leave this one alone until I get the other paintings in this series finished.

My use of a large uncluttered negative space has gotten to be such a print/web design habit . . . for headlines, body copy, etc.

I like it the way it is, but if you do put something there, id go very faint, but i like it, less is more
