We have all enjoyed fabulous artwork by an array of talented individuals.  To name just a few...  Terry Beaty, Mike Bennett, Frank Dietz, Mike Hill, the late, great Linda "Meek" Miller and many more.  I, for one, am just blown away by these incredible artists.

Well, now get ready for some MEDIOCRE MONSTER MADNESS!

I've debated posting my stuff on here, because frankly, I was a little intimidated.  I see someone's work and think, "How in the hell do they do that?!".  I eventually realized that the bunch here at the UMA welcome ANYTHING that's monster-related, even if it's stick-people drawings (which are cool, BTW).  Everybody here makes a monster feel at home.

Started drawing Frank & Kong at around 6 years old.  My creations are pretty much generic, combining images from movies, toys, books, etc.  They ALL have a solid foundation in the Universal Classics.  I just started again after a long hiatus, due to being inspired by this board.  I mostly use Sharpies or Crayola markers, some colored pencils and maybe some occasional watercolors.  I'm a pretty fast sketcher, too.  I don't have a scanner, so my cool daughter used her camera to help me out.  They are sharper looking in person.

This isn't high-art folks, but I hope you get a kick out of them, anyway...  and thanks for looking.

Always been fascinated with Willis O'Brien's idea for King Kong vs Frankenstein.  Here's a camp version.

This is more along the lines of O'Brien's vision...

Kong

Hope you know who this is supposed to be...

Forgot the steel bar on his left arm!!  Unforgivable.

Guess who?

How about a Colossall Creatch vs Godzilla...  notice how I don't like doing backgrounds?

My take on Teenage Frankenstein...

Rare poster...  not really.

Here are a few shots of Bigfoot (notice how they aren't too blurry, unlike most photos of the hairy dude).

And lest you think Bigfoot is NOT a true MONSTER, I submit...

And now for all you werewolves out there... You know who you are...  The first two are based loosely on the beloved MPC Werewolf and the 3rd, well I just hope you recognize him...

Mark! Thanks for posting these! You have a great style! I really like the bigfoot in shadow. Your color choices are very nice. Please feel free to post more!

Thanks,

Thank you so much everybody for the words of encouragement.  I've always looked at myself as a "semi-good" cartoonist who just likes to create weird stuff.  Friends & family would always ask we why I didn't make a living at it.  One of the great statements from well-meaners was, "You ought to send this in!", like there was a magical place somewhere where you could "send it in" and be discovered, LOL!  Hard to explain to them sometimes that there is more to it than that.  I have made a buck or two here and there, though.

I'm comfortable with my style and usually know when I'm in over my head.  I really enjoy making life-size plywood cut-outs, but since moving 90 miles into an apartment, I don't have the room to do that anymore.  The last ones I did were a 7 foot Drac & 7' 6" Frank.  I want to make a giant 8 foot Bigfoot with red flashing lights for eyes and fake fur, one of these days.

I figured I'd get some compliments here.  It's interesting that we lovers of monsters, vampires, werewolves, witches , and more monsters are some of the biggest hearted creatures around...  but be warned...  now that I've found an audience...  YIKES!

Oh, and if anybody has a request for some cartoon I'm actually capable of doing (Wolf Man vs Mummy, Teenage Robot Monster From Hell, etc.), feel free to suggest it.  Either to post or for your very own.

Thanks again.

I'm VERY intrigued by your life-size monster cutouts.  I would drive to Lafayette to pick them up if you're in the market to do more down the road.  Great and unique quality on all your artwork.  Keep it up and thanks for sharing!

Terry, nice use of minimalism. Just the shades and tones needed to define the character. I like the looseness of this piece!

Terry, that is so cool, as usual.  You make it look so easy.  Awesome!
