LOVE the 3D family portraiture UP!! I'm obsessed with the hairy fella!! How did you apply the fur and KEEP it there?
We're all here because we're not all there.

Thanks, guys!  Honestly, the Big, Hairy guy looks way better in person.

RedKing - I basically made an over-the-head "mask" out of sculpey, baked it, then attached it straight to the figure's existing head.  I used epoxy putty to secure the "mask" to the head & face.  This project was a first for me.  I had no idea what I was doing, but really wanted to make this Bigfoot.  I amputated his hands  chain_saw, and made two giant mitts out of sculpey.  I made the wrist & forearm so they could slip over the figure's "stumps", again securing them with epoxy putty.  Made the huge feet out of sculpey and put the figure's original feet into the soft sculpey, making footprints.  After baking the sculpey, I secured the feet onto the figure with - guess what?  So, I now had a rather skinny figure with a massive head, hands & feet.  I duct taped some padding to it to beef it up.  I probably didn't have to use so much padding because the fur itself gives it a "full" effect.  Anyway, painted the face, hands & feet.  Got some fake fur and hot-glued it onto the figure.  I cut the fur in sections - the arms, legs, the torso & shoulders and the head.  First time I had used a gluegun and this cheap fur shedded very easy, so it was rather messy.  But in the end, it seemed to turn out pretty good.  I thought about re-doing the hair on the head, but not sure if I will.  He's a big, heavy SOB - 13" Tall.  Unfortunately, the extra padding affected his articulation somewhat.  His knees still bend a little, his legs move really good and his arms have some swing to them.  I bought a bag of ten, 11-12" figures for 20 bucks awhile back at a flea market, so I'm planning on improving on another Bigfoot pretty soon.  I've already made my own Shock Monster & Kiwi Kingston's Frankenstein Monster.  I've got a figure that's perfect for an El Santo - that might be next!  Have fun creating your own figures, RedKing - and definitely keep us posted!

Scatter - As stated above, I used a $2.99 gluegun and hot-glued the fur to that sucker.  Had to be careful how much & exactly where to apply the glue, but I muddled through.  It's 2 years old and still sticking!

I really enjoy making figures & stuff.  It's fun and a great outlet.  They're definitely one of a kind.  Anybody interested in making me an offer on any of these beasts, just pm me!

Thanks for the info UP! I suspected it might be something like that, I knew you couldn't sculpt right on the figure and bake it. I have a bunch of dollar store generic masked wrestlers that I plan to paint up as the Mexican heroes like Santo,Blue Demon,Mil Mascaras, etc, but I also wanted to make some of the bad guys, so I may be trying out on them!

Awesome sculpts Dr Madd-I especilly like the Christmas piece.
Crazy am I? We'll see if I'm crazy or not!

Hey all! Been a while since I posted anything up here! Things have been crazy busy for the past few months! Between work and the holidays and getting engaged to my better half, I managed to pop this piece out...

I've been co-producing and doing the art direction for this epic touring multimedia 60's concert for the past few months which gave me a chance to work with my second favorite type of art next to monster art: vintage concert poster art! It's been such a blast to work in that style, I thought I'd try combining it with some monsters and seeing what came out of it, and here it is! I call this piece "Electric Lady Lab", after one of my favorite Jimi Hendrix albums. I'm also going to have prints of this piece available at the Mad Monster Party coming up here in Charlotte, NC in March. Hope everyone had awesome holidays! Take care and keep the awesome art coming!!!

Great poster! Now I'd like to hear these bands! A project for UMA musicians perhaps?

That poster is just fantastic! I love the little paisley strips you put on it, and the Frankendrix is groovy!

Nope!  Not a bipedal apeman this time  :D.  I know this isn't very original, but I'm working on a custom 11" figure of our favorite Topstone Vampire Girl - so I did this to inspire me.  Hope you like her!
