Preprints are tough at first because the signature looks like it's supposed to but on closer examination, you can tell it's preprinted.  I have a magnifying glass so I can tell as my eyes aren't as good as they used to be.

Folks, wonderful autographs.  Just be careful.  I recently bought a stack of Star Trek autographs off of a guy who wrote a Star Trek book.  I will not use his name.  Anyway he assured me that all of the autographs were original and that he had them signed in person.  There were 20 in the lot and 11 of them were preprints.  We had long angry discussions before he agreed to take them back.  He finally admitted that he had boght most of them elsewhere and was not aware of how to detect a preprint otherwise he would have been more cautious.

Yup. Its called an auto pen.  Its where a celebrity "cheaps out" and signs their name once into a device that imitates their handwriting. Shatner was the worst for these...but some of the others use them too.  Stephen King never would.  he finally had to stop signing though because he never had any time to write anything besides his name on correspondences to fans.  rather than "cheap out", he just said no. ;D

I can respect his decision more than the auto penners.  Auto pens suck.

Hey Anton, to me there is a difference between an autopen and a pre-print.  I think a pre-print is where they make copies of an authentic signature.  You can see the signature is printed in with the photo instead of on top of it.  You see alot of these on Ebay.  Auto-pens, you need to compare with other signatures and you can notice the dot the i's or cross the t's in the same exact place.

Ahhhh..I see. So its sorta like a photocopy of an actual signed photo.  Gotcha. They both stink equally though ;) ;D.

Just received this in today's mail:

It gets better on the inside:

This is my second signed Arch Oboler book, and I was very pleased to add this one to my collection. He wrote some very memorable episodes of the radio show Lights Out, including "Cat Wife" which
Boris Karloff performed, and is also included in this collection.

Thanks,
Mike

Has anyone seen the 1953 movie made from Obler's "Twonky"??
We're all here because we're not all there.

Actually, Oboler made the film "The Twonky" based on a short story by Lewis Padgett. In the original story the Twonky was a radio set. It was ironic that Oboler changed it to a teevee set, seeing as how television sounded radio's death knell. The film stars Hans Conreid, and I think it is a great little film. It recently showed on TCM and my brother recorded it to dvd for me.
