I wrote to Tristram Coffin back in the early eighties and he sent me a really nice signed photo, who would not want the King of the rocketmen himself. Nice autographs Bonnie maybe you could tell us a bit more about the day at the zoo with miss Shelley.

I am the Female Dracula

Well it's all really a blur in the aftermath! I went to London to go to the signing at the Tropical Zoo. Barbara Shelley, Caroline Munro and Martine Beswick were meant to be there (Caroline had to pull out though). When I got there I was so nervous I couldn't go into the signing room for an hour. Finally I did, and there was a man already talking to Barbara so I waited my turn. I tried to say hi a few times, but whatever happened Barbara couldn't notice me (it later turns out her eyesight and hearing is quite bad). But I managed to asked to purchase a photo, which she personalised for me, and then I sat down beside her. There was an awkward pause- and then I told her how big a fan I was and we just got talking!

I felt so awful for my grandfather, because I left him for about three hours doing nothing. I was meanwhile talking to Barbara about basically everything- WW2, school, acting, all the old films I liked, but mostly she told me awesome stories about behind the scenes of films and TV shows I hadn't seen. She was so lovely to me, saying that she would've been bored out of her skull without me to talk to, and she told me to pick another photo for free. Then we went to feed the lemurs (Barbara used me as a walking stick) and then the sloth, Cynthia (this was another great thing- I hadn't been to a zoo since I was 8 and I love animals!).
After that I took her back to the room where a man was waiting to get an autograph, and I left. She said I could write to her, and I did, but I'm not sure I got the address right (I think I wrote to Barbara Shelley c/o BBC TV Centre, Wood Lane, London).

It was a brilliant day and I don't mind if she never replies, because hanging out with her for two hours was more than what i ever could have expected in the first place!

Bonnie,

That's a great story!  I imagine that she was probably tickled that someone your age was interested in these films.  It's a shame Caroline Munro wasn't there.  She is a really wonderful woman and very friendly.  Hopefully you'll get the chance and have another story to tell someday.

Awesome collection Bonnie! May i ask where you got the Louise Allbritton? Loved her  in Son of Drac!

The Louise Allbritton was just an eBay find, so no real guarantee, but I love it anyway.

Who would have thought that Mr. Zucco was such a party animal. " When is the next party please?"....
