To my enthusiastic and esteemed Limericking comrades;

My posting habits have gotten quite lazy,
(this summer heat has been driving me crazy)
To keep our thread rolling along,
allow me to offer, Limerick 1,051,
But I regret, my creativity is somewhat hazy.

The Raven had a duel with known witchcraft,
And Dr Craven was in fear of the evil Scarabus' wrath,
Yet there were some funny moments,
From the Peter Lorre components,
Although by the end the castle was brought down in the aftermath.

From castle ruins and Gothic towers,
and beasts of ancient lore,
to machete-wielding maniacs,
and ultra-violent gore.
From mad scientists playing God,
and tragic monsters in love,
to inbred mutant cannibal tribes,
and teenagers soaked in blood.
There was a time when horror was pure,
with timeless tales and themes,
when monster icons came to life,
and stalked the silver screen.

Although the mummy had a leg that was lame,
He could always catch his victim all the same,
Beware the beat of the cloth wrapped feet,
Declared the Hammer poster on its one sheet,
My advice then is to relent yourself and play the game.

There, once, was a RIPPER, named JACK,
For dismembering victims, had a KNACK,
             He'd flip, "HEADS, or, TAILS",
             And, as, for their ENTRAILS,
He'd, often, take them, home, in a SACK!

His identity remains unknown,
Yet his legasy appears full blown,
He killed five women maybe more,
Although some suspect he left Britain's shore,
No one knows where he could have flown.

MR.HYDE, in like manner, to JACK, THE RIPPER,
Preferred a Break-fast Feast, of Salted KIPPER,
                   Then, out, into the NIGHT,
                   To savour one more BITE,
From the flesh, of a tawdry SOHO STRIPPER!

There, once, was a Flying Dinosaur, RHAMPHORHYNCHUS,
Who evolved, into the modern-day jailbird, RAT-FINKUS,
            He, once, ruled the skies,
            Now, only, repeats lies,
&, is responsible, for raising, up, too much Major STINKUS!

There once was a master Barber, impeccably skillfull and neat,
who had a habit of making pies, with a dubious filling of meat,
you could have a close shave or a trim,
but your chance of survival was slim,
when visiting Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street!

Once, whilst, in the Church loft, as I sang, in the choir,
I noticed, outside, there appeared the start, of a fire,
It arose, a smoky gray mist...
            After sundown... it did consist,
Of the face & form, of a Blood-sucking VAMPIRE!

There was once was a guy by the name of Poe,
Who although a long time ago he was no ordinary Joe,
He wrote of mystery and of being buried alive,
But like his tell tale heart his madness did arrive,
Leaving us tales consisted of the Gothic and tales of woe.

Without Poe we would have no word for a poem, so rest easy on thy laurels great one and enjoy the genre you helped create.
