Folks, please...  no spitting on graves in the cemetery.

Very well said, Bobby.  This is suppost to be a place to honor the recent dead. The only bashing I like is at the Monster Bash.  Or toward's Scatter.  ;D

Someday you won't have Scatter to kick around anymore. Karen will protect me.

Wicked Lester

The guy obviously had some talent and crazy quirks. He's been dead for like 3 weeks already. Get over it and move on.

ChattyLMS

Well Wicked,
I don't intend any disrespect for the dead, but I think it's time for the media to let it go.  The kids need time to decompress.  It's going to be tough enough for them with the legal issues without having batted back and forth in the news.

The Drunken Severed Head

Michael's life was understandably controversial. That cannot be denied. People have a right to their opinions.

But it looks like we're getting close to flaming each other. A word of friendly warning: That must not happen, or the thread will be locked. I may start editing people's posts, too, if anyone here flames another member.

ChattyLMS

I'm sorry, Drunken.
I didn't mean to throw wood on the fire.  My apologies to all.

The Drunken Severed Head

Oh, I wasn't fussing at any one person, Chatty. Just wanted to have no spats breaking out between anyone here; seemed to me I just needed to caution folks.

ChattyLMS

Thank you, DSH,
Yes it surely can be a touchy topic.

Another Famous Monsters Convention 1995 story.

The one night (Saturday?), there was a big celebrity dinner and costume contest at the Universal Sheraton, on the Universal lot. Al Lewis was the MC for the contest, and because it was Hollywood, there were some of the best monster costumes I had ever seen. There were celebrities galore wandering the room (Adam West, Vampira, FJA, Angus Scrim, Ray Bradbury, Ray Harryhausen, and dozens more notables that just 'showed up', and not part of the convention formal).

Sometime during the costume festivities, from a side door, came in the most fabulous Nosferatu costume i had ever seen. He was very tall (like 7 feet), a fantastic likeness, and built like a Disney Park costume, quality-wise. Superior, bar none. There was a screen in the neck so the wearer could function. Of course, a 4 year old little girl, dressed as the Bride of Frankenstein (I think) won the contest, the 15 or so contestants standing on a riser/stage with Al.  Afterwards, they all came down and mingled with the crowd. I went over and checked out the Nosferatu close up, and I was amazed. A 5-10 thousand dollar costume I was thinking, and I think he came in 3rd or 4th! I did go up to him and congratulate him on the great costume, and I got a little knod, but no speech. He then disapeared for the night, literally sneeking out the same way he appeared.

There was an article in the LA Times the next day, all about the convention (which received a lot of press), and even brought up the celebrity-studded costume contest and even Nosferatu. As it turned out, the guy in the Nosferatu costume was a celebrity, too- it was Michael Jackson!

Some how I missed this post. I am just now reading it. I to was at this con. My buddy was in the hot tub, with someone that said he was Jacksons Manager. He told me this the Night before the Costume contest. The night of the contest, I was a foot away from Him in the cool Nosferatu costume. He had never met Al Lewis and wanted to get close enough  to meet him and get his autograph. The funniest thing about this was that Linnea Quigley, Sang Thriller right before the contest.  Now she is a very pretty Lady, but man she butchered that song. (Forry did the Vincent price voice over and nailed it though).  I think it was funny that Jackson Had to  stand there and  listen  to it.  ;D
