I have a few DVDs of the original show.  Lately, been catching some on COZI TV.  It's always amazed me how great the classical music works in this series.

Someone years ago said the definition of low-brow was hearing the William Tell Overture, and the first thing you thought of was "The Lone ranger."

Mark me down as neanderthal.  As a 50's kid, I lived and breathed TV westerns.  The Lone ranger theme music is permanently planted in my head.

The William Tell Overture includes the lyrics "Hi-Yo, Silver! Away!" just as surely as "The Star Spangled Banner" is followed by "PLAY BALL!".

Chalk me up as Cro-Magnon.

I know I must be low brow, because when I hear the "William Tell Overture", the Lone Ranger is the first thing that pops into mind.  I'll probably avoid the new movie, because I don't wan't a dead bird on Tonto's head to be the second thing.

I'm a devoted western fan and The Lone Ranger has been one of my favorites for years. The Clayton Moore/Jay Silverheels series and the two movies they made are terrific fun. The early 80's film (with Klinton Spilsbury and Michael Horse)was absolutely horrible, although not as bad as the early 2000's TV movie that the old WB network made. That one was so bad I had to open the Windows to let the stench out. I truly am hoping that the new film is good and not an embarrassment to a truly classic character.

We'll there is probably some evil time travelling villian involved, and that would explain the use of a diesel horn on a steam locomotive. Maybe they'll be doing a crossover with Dr. Who, or it could be the fourth instalment of the "Back to the Future" franchise.
