So of course I know the Lone Ranger but I never watched any of the show or movies etc. I think there was briefly run cartoon in the 80's that came on with Tarzan on Saturday mornings which I remember sparked up some interest because I had an awesome LR figure complete with Silver.

Anyway I keep seeing the comic book and wanted to see what the real mythos was about but had passed. Today by complete accident I saw it was on AMC and only a few minutes into it so in need of a lazy Saturday I kicked back and watched it. Then I really started to watch it and get more and more into it.

For some reason I was expecting something along the lines of an Adam West Batman and to put it best, Lone Ranger and Tonto would've beaten the crap out of everyone in Gotham lol.

1. I had no idea that guy's like Cassidy would be pretty damn hardcore bad guys. I mean shooting people point blank and how they gunned down Ramirez...hardcore

2. There is nothing that isn't a "super hero" about LR and Tonto. My 1st thought listening to Moore's dialogue was "wow, this guy couldve been a voice on Super Friends." Then as the move progressed--just his overall mannerisms and his morals. Total, 100% hero. He deserves to be up there in the ranks with Super Man and Captain America. This guy is all truth and justice and even the undertones of "all men created equal" and trying to live peacefully with the Native Americans....just the quintessential "good guy."

3. Fight scenes and acting are solid. Lots of action! I remember my old man being really into westerns and it took me awhile. I enjoyed Eastwood's stuff but even as a kid I got restless. Sometimes there was too much drama and not enough action. Nowadays I like some of the movies my dad did but had I watched Lone Ranger 1st I probably wouldve thought westerns were awesome. Tons of action, great music during the fights....watching Silver getting up on 2 legs while LR throws down with "Angry Horse". Just good clean fun.

Anyway, now--I'll go ahead and order the recent comic book from Dynamite and eagerly anticipate the new film coming out next year. And yes I will most likely be getting the originals on disc.

Found a new classic today, good stuff!

What's this new film coming out next year your talking about?  A Lone Ranger film!?!?  That would rock!

If you like the movies, try the old time radio classic shows...good stories with some good acting.
I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity...

I watched LR Tonto, Silver & Scout every week when I was a young'in.  Always got a kick outta it - and The William Tell Overture - hell yeah!

Hearing the crickets, eh?  Heck, I bought a 45 record of the theme when I was 12!

Add me to the LR fanboy queue!! Of course, I'm a DS fanboy too, so knowing Johnny Depp is involved in the new movie makes a bit of puke come up in my mouth at this point.

BTW, that LR and Silver figure you had as a kid was made by Gabriel and came out in 1973. They pop up on eBay pretty regularly in varying condition. I'm out for one myself.
We're all here because we're not all there.

Tonto costume looks cool in the trailer

The Masked Man

What I don't understand is why do they always take a classic hero...or TV show and make a joke out of it?

This will be they only impression that some younger people will have of this classic hero of fiction....and why must Tonto have to be a western version of Jack Sparrow?.......and he will....look at Dark Shadows.....Willy Wonka....etc...

I've wondered this too. IMO film-makers have bought into the the opinion that "bad is the new good". Look at the "heroes" of professional wrestling, action movies, etc. ThMany of them are jerks, loudmouths, bullies or killers who just happen to "do something good" to get the label of hero. For my two cents, I've always loved the old Lone Ranger TV show and the movie.
Supernatural, perhaps; baloney, perhaps not.

Used to watch it every morning, it was on either before or after George Reeves Superman!!  I actually met Clayton Moore (he did a signing behind the local supermarket) and had an autographed picture of him....wish I still had it-it was a black & white 8x10 that featured pictures of a bunch of his different disquises that he wore on the show.

I've been a long time fan of the series, and I think there was a thread which involved Johnny Depp playing Tonot, who's new native-american name will be "Dandruff with Ravens".
What ever happened to my Transylvania Twist?

While Depp as Tonto looks cool as hell, that guy playing LR looks a bit...uhhh...sorta like a pencil neck. Not that I was expecting Stallone to play the Lone Ranger, but come on, look at Clayton Moore in his heyday--broad shoulders, square jaw--just looks perfect for the character he was playing. Maybe I'm wrong but this guy kinda looks like a bit of a spoof of LR. Guess we'll have to see.....

Anyway, so what are the Lone Ranger movies with Moore as the Ranger? Are their more than 2??

Add me to the LR fans too. When I was 11 or 12 I also watched everyday paired with the George Reeves Superman TV show after school. The Lone Ranger is definitely more super hero more than western too me. There were only the 2 Clayton Moore movies too by the way.
Crazy am I? We'll see if I'm crazy or not!
