He was the last of his kind.  A politician that fought for what he believed was best for his country.  Yet, his battles never ended in personal animosity.  It was common for him to count his political opponents as friends.  He would fight them on the Senate floor and at the end of the day they would go out for dinner.  He would seek a common ground, and use it to persuade his opponents, or find a way to a compromise both sides could live with.

Sadly, I do not think we will see the like of him again.
