So... with Halloween coming up, I was wondering if anyone has any fun or scary recipes they would like to share?

Here are a couple of quick and easy ones that I made last year-

Spider Crackers

Ingredients:
1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon peanut butter
48 butter-flavored round crackers
1/2 cup chow mein noodles (or you can use pretzel sticks)
1/4 cup raisins

Directions:
Spread 1 teaspoon of peanut butter on the tops of 24 crackers. Place three noodles on each side of each cracker and top with the remaining crackers. Spread a small amount of peanut butter on each raisin; place two on each cracker for eyes. Makes 2 dozen.

Carrot Eyeballs

Ingredients:
Carrots
Cream cheese
Pitted black olives

Directions:
Slice carrots into 1-inch thick chunks. Top each with a blob of cream cheese and one half of a pitted black olive, and serve.

And here's one I want to try this year. It looks very cool:

Melon Brain

Ingredients:
1 small round watermelon

Directions:
Use a vegetable peeler to remove the entire green rind, exposing the inner white rind. Slice off the bottom of the melon to create a flat base that will keep it from rolling. With a toothpick, outline squiggly furrows that resemble the folded surface of a brain. Carve narrow channels along the tracings with a sharp paring knife to expose the pink fruit beneath the rind.
I know us guys are supposed to let you women alone, but that brain rocks Nicole, that is awesome!

Just dropping by to say thanks to Nicole for the Melon Brain recipe, can't wait to see Karen's face when I make this.  That is so awesome and fun looking.  Ok I'm outta the ladies room now, back to you gals.

Doc T-G and Creepys, I know that when we guys smell somethin' cookin' (this guy, anyhow!), we come snoopin' around!  Gotta drop by once in a while to see what's up--and I agree:  that brain is about the coolest thing I've seen in a long time!  And hope you ladies don't mind if I snag a few of those peanut butter spiders.

This is kind of like a diorama scene I made with Edward Scissorhands figures.  Background was from a Hallmark Store Christmas display!

Mr. Bones Jr. here looks like he's life sized, but he is really 3 ft tall, sitting in an old old child's rocking chair!  Found him at Michael's and he asked me to bring him home.  He seems to enjoy my monster atmosphere!

There are some great pics here!

Sara, I like how the head behind the skeleton in the chair kind of looks like he is peeking over his shoulder!  ;D

Sorry to have bailed on you all here of late, ladies!

This summer I've been wrangling with some stuff with my mom, who has been in the hospital twice, and not driving-- so I've been running a lot this summer, visiting her when she was hospitalized and then taking her places when she was out, like physical therapy, the doctor, errands, etc.  (I have a friend who calls this being a "Professional Daughter.")

Last week the summer chaos really hit an apex...

I don't have children of my own.  However, I have a teen boy who I met through a mentoring program who is very, very dear to me.  (Nicole here has met the young man.)  He is a wonderful, great kid-- never a cross or smart-aleck word out of him; he is talented, creative and funny, just a nice kid, and a big horror fan (so we share that).  Last week, he became the unwitting weapon in an adult fight.

Again, I am not a mom.  However, I think in the last couple days I've had a good glimpse of what it can feel like -- the momma bear gene was activated, put on battle station red alert, and I felt like I could have gone full-out Godzilla on the perpetrator of this cruel farce that was so destructive to the child I love.

REPEATEDLY I thought of your old post tag line, Nicole... about the way to a man's heart being a quick thrust and then pull up with the knife.

As of Monday afternoon, everything has been resolved, he is safe again, and things are in place so this cannot be repeated.  But I honestly feel like years were taken off my life worrying and wondering-- my chest HURT this weekend, from the worry and anxiety.

My hat is off to the moms here at the UMA... keeping all your little monsters safe!  I imagine the rewards are great, but it is a huge responsibility.

Anyhooooooooo...

I'm looking forward to getting back into our "ramp up for Halloween" chat here-- I've missed it!  As soon as I get a little more caught up on reading posts around old Camp UMA, I will post some of my recent collecting adventures and purchases!

Elizabeth, just glad to have you back.... You got a taste of handling an elderly parent and a child at the same time, called the Sandwich generation. That what I had to dealt with for some time. Just glad things are settled for you now.

When Halloween comes, do you ever feel like taking a "Wicked Ride"?  That's the name of this cool display I found at Hallmark recently.  It's by Jim Shore, of Heartwood Creek productions.  Not much horsepower in this kind of a ride, but just one catpower!  lol
