There was a bit of talk about starting a thread along this line. There are a ton of avenues and areas of discussion we could get into. Hard music includes any form of metal , hard rock, industrial, hard techno/trance,and hardcore. Since I am starting the thread Please PLEASE refrain from including "Gangsta Rap" which aside from old school country, boy bands and "praise" music is without a doubt my most DESPISED form of "music" period. I'll spare the rant on why I hate it so much.
To start,I was maybe 10 the first time I heard stuff by Blue Cheer. 12 when I discovered Alice Cooper. 13 when I got a K-Tel record double set and first heard IRONMAN.  :o 8) YEA thats what I'm talkin about. I was hooked on hardrock and metal for life. A few years later I was telling anyone who would listen that The Scorpions ,Judas Priest and Motorhead would be HUGE. Hardly anyone had ever heard of these bands at that time. And so it started. Metallica ,Exciter, Pile Driver , Carnivore, Black Flag, So many bands from back then some long gone some still going strong. Death Metal,Industrial, Hardcore. I remember going in to THE hot store in the area and spending a days wages on 4 albulms a 12" EP and a maxi single. If I spent a days pay today on basically 5 CDs the wife would skin me. Let the banter begin.

I like alot of the hard rock/ metal groups that most have never heard of like
Zodiac Mind Warp and the love reaction, Smashed Gladys, Laaz Rockit,Warlock,
I cant remember the group, but their album was called Screwed,Blued, and Tatooed.
Trouble was another of my faves, I even once bought a Raegae metal tape, I think I wound up throwing it in the lake.

I've heard of all those bands and saw Trouble twice back in the late 80s/early 90s. Huge stuff with big Sabbath /Witchfinder General influence. There was a bit of misconception that they were a Pro Christian Doom band. Which I can see considering some of the lyrics  (case in point ,the album The Skull)but some of the early stuff had to do with getting away from drug addiction (Run to the Light). The Christian stuff,at least according to the mags back then was merely a theme to go with.

Dr.Teufel Geist

I too believed they were Christian type, the Album I had was called Trouble.
Some of the songs were, The Misery Shows, Black shapes of doom, etc.
I loaned the tape to a friend some time ago and never got it back, been meaning to go
and buy the cd, but havent got around to it.

I always liked "Vomitus", especially their classic track "Blowing Chunks".
We're all here because we're not all there.

A little known band who put one album of industrial metal was a band called Passafist. They released one cd, which was way too short at just over 40 minutes, but did include a song called "The Dr is In" which featured sound bites from the film Dr Strangelove. Loud, crunchy guitar with screaming vocals. I usually don't like this form of music, but this one really clicked with me. Dave Perkins and Lynn Nichols were the main forces behind it. Perkins was a session guitarist who has played with darn near everyone on the planet!! His latest release is Pistol City Holiness, which has elements of his indie sound mixed with blues and rock. A formula for sonic bliss! It's available at cdbaby.

Passafist pops up on ebay every now and then. It was released with two different covers. I own them both.

I bought an issue of the metal mag Decibel the other day. It came with a free CD of EXTREME death metal. Out of the 18 tracks there was only 1 I liked. A couple more were ok and the rest pretty crappola. So I spent a couple more hours checking the bands in the mag that had adds on Youtube. Again it was a 20/80 split of cool vs crap. Not sure if I'm just getting old or what. I still like most of the bands I was into in the 80s and 90s. Some I checked out again on Youtube. I spent about 3 hrs on there today. There were a few where I was " ??? :o I used to like this stuff? For every good band especially in the more extreme genres there are 50 that pretty much suck. It's like they try to outdo each other on who is the most brutal/evil/sickest etc.

I am finding aside from the a fore mentioned older stuff what I lean towards these days on the newer side is split 3 ways. Sympho/Goth. Tristania being my fave. Earlier Therion as well. Viking metal with heavy folk influences (Moonsorrow , Ensiferum) and Cybermetal (The Kovenant , Deathstars)

I know that you was makin a funny but you aren't too far off. There are bands with names and songs I could never post here.
The vocal deliver in Death Metal is sometimes referred to as "vomiting" depending how guttural it is.

And Lundy, how did you know about an old 80s black metal band named Amputation? ;) Yes,there was.

Dr.Teufel Geist

I have been listening to NIGHTWISH alot lately, ever since I heard the song Nemo.
I own 3 cds with Tarja as the lead singer, and the new cd with the other woman singer, cant remember her name.
Nightwish is a Finnish Metal/Opera style group, for those out there who dont know who I am talking about.
I also tune in on Saturday nights from 11pm to 3am for F.H.S./Altared States on Z94.1fm (local station in Oklahoma).
F.H.S., stands for (edited)FREAKIN HARD (edited)STUFF, they play alot of 80s-09 Metal bands, Hard,Heavy,Speed,Scream.
Then there is HeadBanger's Ball on MTV Satruday night as well.
I really dont care for the metal music that screams, I like to understand what is being said.

I love metal to death!! In many of its forms and sub genres. When I was a kid I found KISS and that was it. I know I'll catch hell for this, and ALOT of guys I hang out with that are into metal cant stand it and just dont get it but pound for pound..you will never see a better live show...EVER. The 1st 6 recordings are some of my favorite albums in the history of music and to this day I credit the original line up for getting me intrested enough to pick up an instrument and play in metal bands all my life...including the present.

After KISS, its pretty much a 3 way tie with Maiden, The Misfits and Slayer...then I found death and black metal and my entire world changed, Obituary, Cannibal Corpse, Emperor, Immortal, Dissection...basically if it was Bay Area Thrash, Nordic Black Metal, Tampa Death Metal or anything that came from Sweden, I probably own it and love it.

Cant take away from the godfathers i.e. Possessed, Priest, Venom, S.O.D., Bathory, etc...which leads me to today's scene and the departure of my current drummer......The word "brutal" is the most overused word in metal music and not to be a closed minded a-hole but these "new" death metal bands are both far from brutal and far from death metal. 1st of all, stop wearing your sisters paints and worry about playing your instrument...not how many notes you can fit inside a split second, not how low you can get your vocals so its beyond a death metal growl, but a "burp" that you cant understand and PLAY METAL!!!!!

Not to say I dont listin to new stuff, there a few bands out there that are somewhat new that I like...its just nice to see the veterans dust off and go out there and crush these kiddie bands.

When I say I love metal....hell, in my car right now I have Cannibal Corpse: Evisceration Plague...and its right next to Rainbow: Long Live Rock N Roll........it used to be back when, if I said "I like metal"...that meant I was open to everything from Sepultura to Deep Purple....go to the shows, support the scene, BUY the music and stick together!!!

Here are a few tracks from bands that I love that all sound pretty different....enjoy!

I am a huge fan of KISS too, I may not like some of their sell out soft crap, ya know kinda like what Metallica did.
I will just type some of the bands I listen to.
---------------------------------------------------
METALLICA(OLD STUFF)/ANTHRAX/TYPE O NEGATIVE/MOTORHEAD/KROKUS/ACCEPT/JUDAS PRIEST/CRUE/SMASHED GLADYS
MEGADETH/HAMMERFALL/DRAGONSFIRE/MALMSTEIN/CSFH/MANSON/KISS/IRON MAIDEN/SLAYER/WARLOCK/LITA FORD/SABBATH
WASP/ETC.
I know theres a ton more, but cant just think of them right now.

I still think KISS:ALIVE! is still one of the best rock albums in history. Favorites aside, they're one of the best bands I've ever seen, bar none.

Also a big KISS fan. Don't know how I forgot to mention them. The first 4 albums and Alive 1 and 2 are CLASSICS. After that they kinda went downhill and turned into commercial crap. Not a big fan of the Anthem stuff like Rock and Roll all Night or Shout it out loud. Prefer songs like Parasite , Strange Ways , Black Diamond , Deuce.
In fact I was just cranking that stuff in my back yard a couple weeks ago. Swilling beer ,doing landscaping and a little headbanging as well. My neighbor was out with is kids ages 3-12. I got a few strange looks especially when the wife and I got into a kinda loud discussion on the music , the concerts etc. One of the best shows for sure.

BL
Checked out the vids. All pretty good stuff except.....C.C. Never a fan. Obviously I've heard of all of them except Repulsion. I'm not sure why you refer to them as Grindcore. I listened to it twice and both times I heard something similar to better stuff from Venom.
